I used to live in Cleethorpes during my student years, I'll admit it's a bit dated, but it's a great little Town and I'll die on that Hill.

The man of a million edits! I never think of Cleethorpes as the seaside...just the estuary of the Humber.

Spent my first day walking around Cleethorpes last week, around the fitties, what a fantastic place, very picturesque, long sandy beach, sand dunes, some world war 2 history and some lovely cafes along the beach front. Take a chance on this little gem and make your own mind up !!

We pop down to Tener-Cleef on train from Barton every month or so from across the Humber and i have to say we love it. Can't believe you didn't cover the miniature steam railway literally 50 yards from the signal box, Papas fish and chips on the pier and the land train. You can get a direct train to Liverpool from the station too.

Blame the council for not endorsing any ideas. Let’s knock stuff down but not build anything in its place. Waste money on stupid plans, which costs money, then moan they have none. They could turn Meggies into a great place but it’s always a flat no or comes to nothing with £££ disappearing!into thin air or used for stupid fancy recycling bins instead of things to attract not only tourists, but local people to use Cleethorpes.

I am a local of this town and it's not the worst town, yes it's poor we the people don't have alot to do. As we've been bowling, swimming to the cinema, pleasure island, thousands of times. For us there isn't alot to do apart from work and go to the pub at the weekend, but for people visiting then these things would be acceptable. The problem with the town is the local council, they spend all their money on the armed forces weekend and tourism, the town Grimsby next to cleethorpes suffers because of this, if you come from the beach into town, you will find homelessness, mass unemployment and drugs ruling the scenes. The history of this place is we was a thriving fishing port, which is a long time gone now as we import from Indonesia yet everyone bangs on about us being this great fishing port, our job centre doesn't help us get jobs, it just monitors everyone claims, all jobs are found by the people here and mostly the jobs are out of town or in the next town. What the town needs is more than factory jobs, it needs a better education system and more businesses invested into the area, because we aren't a through fare, we are in a geologically dead ended place. We have a port so anything manufactured here could leave via there. But I don't think it will get better, and I feel the drugs are just rising and rising. Hope you enjoyed your stay though, don't see the appeal of this town really, a long time past is the vibe.

For a British seaside resort it's not bad, there are some good bars & shops in the town & along the seafront. Bridlington & Mablethorpe are complete dives by comparison

Cleethorpes itself is lovely...... Best thing about it is..... Rod Temperton is from there. A very influential song writer. ( look him up ) but is no one going to mention the HORRENDOUS road into Grimsby ? Its ribbed concrete surface made it the noisiest road in the United Kingdom at that time. In June 2017, sound levels inside a family car travelling along the road were measured at up to 92 decibels

Thanks for sharing this. It's not a place I'd thought about visiting, but having visited a number of memorials last month in Washington DC and New York, you realise how important it is to honour those who serve, but it also helps to put the value of life in perspective. There's a lot of dysfunctional people in the UK right now, they'd do well to show some respect.

I met my husband on the beach in Cleethorpes in the 1960’s. Been married for 60 years. It doesn’t look as if it’s changed much since then. We were supposed to be going to Knaresborogh but went the wrong way and got lost.

Think im correct in saying the train station is the only Terminus one in the UK that is directly onto the seafront, ive lived here all my life,im 55 and seen how the town has declined unfortunately due to mainly the council narrow mindedness, lack of thinking what is needed, when Pleasure island closed it was a massive nail in the coffin for the resort imo, correct though a huge lack of attractions for families with children of varying ages, once they have done the arcades, had a swim/ bowl, cinema basically nothing left to do
