Just now watching this, not that late! Good job! BlackStone Singers…. We had a drum group in the 80s under the watchful eyes of the older Porcupine Singers. Guidance from them payed off in the long run. We went by Black Hills Singers.

My Great Great Grandfather's name was "Porcupine Standing Sideways"... And nice to see part of his name, which drew my Attention to this video... His son, My Great Grandfather, Jack Fiddler, was part of Manitoba's Dark past, and it's written in a book, written by my Grandfather, Thomas Fiddler called "Killing the Shamen"... It's a good read, and relates to me with what's going on in this Pandemic World we all live in... Anyway, just wanted to write a brief comment about his name... Meeway, Megweech 👍🏼

Wopila for honoring the Porcupine Singers. My grandfather Francis Menard was one of the singers, and I often sing with Severt Young Bear Jr. and other's on the Pine Ridge.

Terry's sharing on "cutting" and the fast triple beats takes me way back to '78, when I first heard that, when a friend on a drum I was sitting in on that night laid those fast triple beats down on just before the down beats...I thought it was way cool...I recently saw the Young Spirit video of "the most badass powwow song" doing their version of those fast beats on the down beats...it sure sounds good! About the "cutting" in on the leads, that was the usual way we done it on our drum back in the day....sgood to hear Terry sharing those stories of days past.

So many memories !!! 20 years as a vendor on the east coast and looked forward to the evenings. it was so easy to become one with the heart beat. Many times I have gone back to my brothers and sisters on the on the plains in a trance and did not want to return to now. My great great great grandmother was LAKOTA. Her native name is MOONBEAM. I can go on forever. Wopila ! Tom (MATO) from Rhode Island

AHO, ALL NATIVE RELATIVES ACROSS TURTLE ISLAND & IN FAR DISTANT CONTINENTS. I AM FULL BLOOD DINÉ ALSO FROM THE EASTERN DISTRICT. I ALSO KNEW BIG BROTHER, EVERRT POORTHUNDER. IT WAS HE THAT INTRODUCED ME TO THE DRUM & SINGING BACK IN THE EARLY 90'S. AND MANY BLESSINGS GO THE FAMILY. IT WAS ALSO AROUND THAT TIME THAT WE, THE FAMILY WAS INVITED TO HELP AT THE SUNDANCE AT RED SHIRT TABLE IN SOUTH DAKOTA. MANY BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES FROM THAT TIME. SO I WISH MANY BLESSINGS AND THANKS TO ALL THE LAKOTA NATION AND THE PORCUPINE SINGERS.
