Wow! You totally saved me! My needle kept falling out: the needle clamp screw wouldn't tighten up, it just kept turning. On taking the needle clamp screw out, I noticed that some thread near the tip had sheared off. I bought a new screw but again, it wouldn't tighten. I had to go a step further than your video to fix it: I'm adding what I did here in case it helps someone: I removed the black piece on the stem of the needle holder by unscrewing the screw you refer to in your video. Be warned, there is a tiny metal C shaped piece of metal in there that is loose once this part is taken off the stem. You can see where this is meant to go when you look at the bottom of the stem: it's the front section from the needle holding hole. I reassembled it by putting the black piece back onto the stem and leaving a gap to insert the C shape piece of metal (with the flat side of the C on the left as you look at it), using tweezers and tilting the machine slightly towards me. I pushed it up, which aligned the needle clamp screw holes. Then I used one finger to push the white/metal dangly bit (?) down and out the way so I could carefully put the screw holding the thread guide (which has two bits of metal attached to it) back into place and tighten it up. It felt like something a professional should have done, tbh - I was extremely relieved that I managed to get it all back together and even happier when it actually worked. I think a bit of the screw thread had come loose inside the needle clamp holder and this was stopping it from tightening properly (another metal semicircle of screw thread came out when I took the needle clamp screw holder off). Thanks again, I couldn't have done this without your video. I have the Opal 690.

I do see the screw but how do I access it? There is very little space and I can’t fit a screwdriver in there.
@SewingWithMinaLolitaАй бұрын
Yes- it’s a special screw that’s bent at the top that will get to that area- I can’t remember the name of that screwdriver, check the comments as I do believe I mentioned the name before.

At first I was stumped why this didn’t work for me. Then I remembered that the filter said she stuck a small piece onto the new lifter bar. My machine was missing this! I found the part online at sewing parts online and ordered that too. It’s called “Knob Spring, Elna #395054-50”

Love that you did this with the children. I discovered sewing only 6 years ago and am now obsessed. My mom is a brilliant sewist but I never picked it up until I was an adult. Just thinking how the kids will be able to make their own clothes and items. I love everything I make; even the clunkers!

Thanks so much!!! That’s why I love teaching the youth so they won’t - later in life say I wish I would have picked this up as a child and they could have been further along with a passion they absolutely love.

What if you want long sleeves.
@SewingWithMinaLolita4 ай бұрын
I believe I made these sleeves 10” Long, if you want them longer just add that length and continue. So, instead of 10” long, make them 20” king of that’s your desired length.

Came across your tutorial today as I have just sewn an open front jacket and wasn't planning to put any lining in it as it is made with a knit fabric. However, the style of the jacket has a curved front requiring the seams to be notched /clipped and the front facing/finishing piece is only 1.5 inches wide when sewn on. Not happy with how unfinished it looks so now I'm going to line it and already have the pieces ready to go. thank you for this well-present tutorial - it has been a big help in determining how to go about attaching it. The only thing I plan to do differently is to not stitch across the bottom hem. After the fronts and neckline are attached I will then turn it up and hand stitch that edge into place.

Quick question before I get started ... the front and back squares are supposed to be the full wrapped width? so if I measured at 46 inch I'd need to cut two pieces that are 69 inches wide?
@SewingWithMinaLolita5 ай бұрын
Your bust measurement x 1.5. For example bust 45x1.5= 67.5” /2= 33.75.. two squares cut of 33.75

I learned to sew from my grandmother eons ago. Using lace hem tape was a given for all garments. The only thing different she taught me was at each stitch through the fabric is to make a small knot in the lace tape.

Thanks. What is the purpose of having the lace on the inside?
@SewingWithMinaLolita5 ай бұрын
lace is light weight, so its ideal for using a light weight fabric. The hem was lengthened, so I used lace to give me the most length possible. If I had hemmed the traditional way I would have had to turn up at least an inch. It's also decorative. It can add a pop of color to the underside of a pair of pant when walking or sitting.

If I wanted to do this pattern without the ruffle, would I need to cut this as an a-line? ❤

No, the dress is just a square piece of fabric gathered for shape - so just add them, as it will appear as an a-line dress with or without the ruffles.

I can’t believe this works still. Had repair person put needle clamp in. Brought it home, needle kept on falling out. We brought the machine back and the tech said we must have stripped the screw again . So he put in a new needle. And said if it didn’t work we would have to pay for new repair. We brought it home again and needle fell out. So my husband searched the web and found this video. Wow it worked on my Husqvarna designer ruby. I’m back to sewing thank you so much for this information !!
