Yeah we got a fair few videos coming when I come back off my break 😃 First up with be Displays and buttons (AMPCD), then to finishing off the lower pedestal - will look at doing steppers/servos for the cabin alt gauge And then how to take ‘outputs’ from Bios to drive LEDs and then eventually into magnets

My goal is to build 4 (up to 8) that face eachother during transport to and from the local Airshow. Become a "vender" have 2 for sale and 2 for "party rentals" build more as sales increase (repeat x5 yrs) open a "Sim-Cade" in a mall or strip-center and expand Nation wide. Think E-Sports/ Tournaments and even offer 1 pit a year to be able to give away in an effort to maintain community presence. Flight Deck in Anaheim California is 1 example. Cheers!!

Great tutorials!!! Thank you very much! I've been using Leo Bodnar's joystick interfaces, but I'm thinking of switching to Arduino. My main concern is that since you set up every switch through DCS-BIOS for a specific plane (F-18), what happens if you want to fly another plane (F-5 or MiG-29)? Those modules won’t recognize your Arduino setup, right?
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 5 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah that is a very valid concern, and it all comes down to how many extra modules you want to fly For me it will be just F-18 as a high fidelity sim, and then generally I’ll fly the UH-1 or UH-60 with a little bit of F-5 and for all of those I’ll probably just use the Hotas. But I do believe there is a way to write program with DCS Bios for multiple modules - and it will take info from the game and know what you’re flying

If you were to do it again, would you use 18 or 19mm MDF? I have access to both and are unsure what to pick.

Hey mate! Thanks for the comment and great question 🫡 if I had to do it again and I had access to 3/4” (19.05mm) material I would use the 19mm The 18mm is fine… but there are moments where you see the 1mm gaps, such as when you use 1.5” screws per the build plan, but your two pieces of material equal just shy (by 2mm) so the tip of the screw sticks out - but other than that it all still works :)

Nice video man. But i have a question. how can i use your method for panels that are not really accessible through the Model viewers back camera position, like you explained it in your video, or the top view of the cockpit. For example the LED-Panel with the WarningLights in it. It is in every perspective very difficult to make a screenshot and re-draw the panel in a CAD-Software. But when i try to change the camera postion to get a better looking angle, youre still right what you said in your video, that the shape of the Panel will be warped. Maybe you can help me :). Thanks
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 6 күн бұрын
Hey that is a tricky one, the best I’ve been able to do is jump in game, and use something like TrackIR to take as “straight on” as I can screen shot. Panels are easy to do as their lengths and widths can be calculated using dzus lengths and widths Caution panels are a little harder - but can be scaled fairly accurately by using surrounding items, like screw heads, switch mounting threads etc What aircraft are you building

@@aHornetsNest Hey, thank you for your answer. I will also build a hornet :). I also have a question about Fusion itself. Maybe you can answer that. My problem is that after following your steps and cutting the text from body #1 (the top layer), my cuts don't appear white like it does in your case. In my case, I mark the text again and this time create objects from it, then I can color the objects. But that is very time intensive. How do you do that in your case?
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 2 күн бұрын
Nice one! So the way I mark my text into the paneling 1) make ‘body’ of object white with the appearance tool (A) 2) make ‘faces’ of object black, make sure the option that says something about apply to faces is selected, sometimes it reverts back to paining the body 3) then extrude (E) to cut the layer, depending on orientation.. if you type in a distance and it looks like it’s raising it off the body creating bumps, just add a - (negative) sign in front of the value to tell fusion to extrude the other way Some days I’ll forget to colour the body and faces first… then I’m left with the tedious job of colouring in each bit You can also hold Shift and select each face and colour them in one hit Hope this helps 👍🏼

Hey Scott, at 2:34 in the video, Line 21 shows DcsBios : : Switch3Pos cocKKpitLightModeSw("COCKKPIT_LIGHTMODE_SW".....) Why are there 2 "KK" for Cockpit? Does that matter in DCS or in coding in general? Thanks for your tutorials, I'm learning A LOT!!!! I'm working on my F-16C for DCS and MSFS.
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 12 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment :) So the double KK is just how the BIOS creators named it… you probably find another model has the same naming convention, and that module has a single K… so they used double K to prevent cross over issues - that’s just my thoughts You’ll see that naming in the aircraft files of bios

All modern US aircraft like the -16, -15E, -18 and such follow the same military specification for instrument panels. The width of the panels is 5.75 inches. This is for where the bottom of the panel mounts to the Dzus rails. There is a formula for using the spacing pattern of the Dzus rails to give you the exact height of the panel given the spacing of the Dzus fastener. Too much to put into a comment. Maybe if I make a KZfaq channel for my SimPit build I could do a video to cover it all.

So I have an entire cockpit running right now with dcs running the old dcs bios, everything works, I have almost every led in the f16 cockpit modeled and connected, and it’s working. The reason I was going to switch to skunkworks is because I just installed the landing gear handle light and it wasn’t acting right. When I paste the code snippet from the new bort reference, it tells me the f16c_xxx wasn’t defined. The old dcs bios you just cut and paste it all and it just works. What am I doing wrong? And I really don’t like the whole type each com port into the command prompt and run them, what happens when you have 4 or 5 boards? You have to open a window for each and start them all every time you play? The old bios you just opened and it connected by itself and hid in system tray. Not sure why they had to go change everything, doesn’t seem like they made it better lol

So having a bit of a look at the referencing issue You may need to send me a screen shot of the error, or go into your aircraft library to see what the new syntax is - these changes will inherently happen regardless of it being BIOS or a WinWing system - only difference is we do the debugging I know the F-16 has had some syntax issues - but I can say the F-18 works exactly the same as the old BIOS It’ll just take some time to correct it and you’ll be back on your way

Yeah I’m really looking forward to it It’ll take some time as I’m away from the work shop for a little while But it’ll be the tutorial after next The next tutorial will be “how to send files to a PCB manufacturing house and get them assembled” And then next will be building the AMPCD I don’t want to rush that one because I know it’ll be a good one :)

That’s quite genius actually with that led strip. What led strip did you use? The ones I know of seem a little wider, but this looks like 3mm wide. Is the strip single sided or double sided?

This is a really cool DIY series. Hats off to you for your clear and easy to follow presentation and editing style! RE: paper print panels. Is it an idea to use a light spray of (semi-gloss) clear coat on the paper to both protect the print better and to let it pop a bit more? Perhaps laminating the print outs using a desk use laminator might also be an option?..
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 2 ай бұрын
Thanks mate! You can definitely add a clear coat to the panels to give them a bit of durability And it’ll also make the black look real nice I never thought about laminating - that’s a pretty cool idea

What's the material of headrest on ejection seat? Same MDF?
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 2 ай бұрын
The material of the headrest is PLA … it will be 3D printed? By I might mould a leather over it just to make it a little softer since I won’t be wearing a helmet

Great video as always! I was partly through a self designed build and have decided to go the open hornet design now based on your videos. Now all I need to do is find a shop here in southwest Arizona that can cut everything using the drawings. The electronics part does not scare me at all, I have already built multiple projects including an A-10 CDU... it's always the wood projects that give me anxiety lol

@@aHornetsNest thank you for your feedback! I am trying to build an F-16 cockpit, I was thinking to try with filament 3d printing (trying to save costs) but would probably have a terrible outcome...what do you think!

Filament printing would work if you were flying VR - where you are not looking at them If you didn’t want to buy a resin printer, have a look at our sponsors PCBWay and they can print for you - for way less then the cost of a printer pcbway.com/g/6CU8SX Use this link for a little discount on your first order! 😊

nice video's, At the moment I am building some extra controls for my universal sim rig and your video's are of a great help, just starting today on wirering and programing of the first version of my fully custom landing gear lever! :) one note at 3:22 I think you could have easely printed that part without the supports in those holes, saves printing time, material, and the cleanup time O7

Thanks mate! That’s awesome Keep me updated how you go 😊😊 if they were a solid straight walled hole I probably could have - the support supports the counter bored step which provides a little support for the heat insert - 90% of them them print okay with out it, but for the small amount of extra time/filaments it’s not to bad for the guarantee of them moulding properly 😃 See you next episode 🫡🫡

@@aHornetsNest a lot of aircraft a little bit haha, I always have trouble deciding which one to learn/fly with so many great options. but till now I have flown the viggen and mig21 the most. but recently started to really learn the f16, still a long way to go, but I find it easier to stick with this one because you can do all missions with it. how do you do it when you fly other aircraft than the hornet, do you use only your hotas, or do you bind your switches in dcs bios also for the other aircraft? I am thinking of coding it as much as possible to be a normal HID joystick and just be able to assign the controls in-game
@aHornetsNest
@aHornetsNest 2 ай бұрын
Nice one! I never got into the F-16 , but it does look cool Main aircraft I fly are F18, F-5, UH-1, UH-60 The cockpit will be pure F-18, and then the rest are fairly HOTAS based, with a couple keyboard inputs And then if I want some specific paneling like the F-5, which I did for Ep1 and 2 I’ll make those button boxes HID controllers
