Impressive work! I could never do this. My brother and I fixed a PS2 back in the day with a foil gum wrapper, but that was just a rigged up spacer to get the gear to move the laser lens correctly.

nice choice using ace combat 3 to test the PS1. If you ever get the chance to play the japanese version, I highly recommend it as for the PS2, I pulled one with a dead power supply from the e-waste bin at my town's dump. After frying the power supply during an attempt to repair it, I soldered a barrel connector to the power leads on the motherboard and bought a $15 external power brick off Amazon to power it with

You didn’t need to hold down the PS1 cover. You can just use a toothpick to trick the PlayStation into thinking the cover is closed. I used to this to play Japanese imports back in the day.

10:20 - At this part here the disc trays won't open if you tighten the screws on the cover too tightly. Not saying that was the issue but my idiot self spent a while thinking I broke my tray cleaning my PS2 when I simply had tightened the screws too tightly.

There's an old PS3 that I have, the 40GB models from the UK. It works fine for everything except the network connection and unfortunately from what I've read it seems that if the WiFi doesn't work it also means the LAN won't work and vice versa. You can replace the WiFi board and it still won't work - I tried. I don't use my PS3 any more but that always bothered me about it.

A piece of free advice: spit is the best cleaner for the laser lens. Trust me. Just try it once and you'd see yourself it's much better than isopropyl alcohol and other cleaners. As I always say, my spit does miracles!

You also need to check the ESR of the capacitors you check. You can buy a cheap device called "transistor tester". It checks not only transistors, but other electronic parts. And it shows you the ESR of the capacitors. Most of the time a dying capacitor has the original value, but its ESR increases and it causes it to not work properly. You'd need to find them and replace them and you can easily and cheaply do that by the device I mentioned.

Hello, I see no one else has mentioned this, if you suspect there is loose metal inside a device like this I would recommend you do not power it on as all it would take is that spring for instance to touch the wrong component and fry it inside, seen it happen before other than that nice job! Keep it up :)

Good job on the repairs 👍. One thing I would recommend is replacing thermal paste on all the CPUs to keep them cooler and quieter. It can be easier to take the heatsink off, if you run the console for a while to make the thermal paste softer.

"Repairs were quite easy only involving replacing capacitors and adjusting potentiometers." Oh, is that all? I guess when you're doing it all the time, it's easy. Anything beyond cleaning the lens with some IPA means chucking it in the garbage for me.
