In watching previously I had no idea you were going to use aluminum for the bimini top. I’m definitely interested in seeing how this works out on the water. I imagine this will be pretty much maintenance free and no fading fabric and bird pool issues……just hose it off.

The best way if you lad the frame on top of the aluminum sheet and used a prmnit marker trac round the frame then cut it with a 4" cutoff wheel that way you can see what your cutting after you get it cut out then sand the edges so there not ruff

Hey. Thanks for Tuning in!! Best bet is to get an OMC service manual specific to your year/model. The pullstart models are a bit of a different animal- all though people add electric starts on the all the time- It's weird- You'll find out. Anyway check Ebay for a good used manual- it will tell you how to---everything! and save you time and has a great troubleshooting section! I learned my lesson. Hahaha- If I can help out just LMK! Thanks Again !

Not throwing shade but next time on a project like this it always helps me to mark the sheet metal I need to cut, pretty much any marker should work. Then remove it from the frame and put it up on a table or couple boards across sawhorses, just to get it up off the ground. That helps with precision of cuts, tool control, sight lines, less frustration and just better overall comfort and results. Again not throwing shade at all but only trying to be helpful as an old man who's been there done that and learned the hard way. In the end you got'er done and will have some shade out on the water that we all know is a must in the Florida sun. Take care and God Bless...

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. That sludge is unburned fuel/oil- it may be pulling fuel through the primer pump- make sure the knob is pushed in all the way- I had a bad habit of not doing that! If the orings are bad it will still leak- pinch off the fuel line before you dial that carb in- then test run it again with it unpinched- Thanks again!

at 10:09 in the video you determine the cable is shot? what are you wiggling around to check the slop. I think my cable is shot but I want to make sure I am at the end of the tensioner but in the other direction. my roller is on the right side of the cam points. Does this mean new cables? It's a Johnson 30 hp J30ELCOA. I bought the boat used and I am concerned the throttle cables may go to a different outboard and it just was frankensteined back together. What would you recommend?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 2 күн бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I believe I was just using the control lever- moving it back n forth- Well I can't really recommend anything without being there and seeing it but I will say- For some peace of mind, just throw a new cable on it and chalk it up as "routine maintenance"- One thing less to worry about- It probably is worn- a little routine maintenance goes a long way-

@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 my concern about getting a new throttle cable is I don't know the right size cable. I'm concerned the cable that is installed is the wring cable. It seems to be changed recently. Anyway to tell if it's right? I bough the boat last week. The controls are black and the motor is white don't know if that says anything
@xxboothbykingxx3944
@xxboothbykingxx3944 2 күн бұрын
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 also is there any other way to adjust the roller and the 2 points on the cam other than the throttle cable? It's just so close after adjusting the throttle cable to max. It's probably stretched because the adjustment "screw" is at the largest point and maxed out on the cable.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Күн бұрын
@@xxboothbykingxx3944 all the OMC cables for these outboards are the same, all you need to do is choose what length you need. I think your best bet is to get an omc service manual for your year/model- look on ebay for a good used one- it will give you proper procedures for installing/adjusting the throttle cable and the link & sync procedures- if its not synchronized properly it won't run right or maybe not at all. A manual will save you tons of time- there should be an idle stop/adjustment screw, number 84 in the schematic (www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1985&hp=30&model=J30ELCOA&manufacturer=Johnson&section=MIDSECTION) this is how you set the position of the roller/cam follower. If the cable is not set properly your gonna have a hard time setting the roller- this is also your slow speed timing with the two marks on the cam. Also at full throttle the carb butterfly needs to be perfectly horizontal, again, if the cable is not set right it's gonna have problems running at full throttle. It's all about synchronizing throttle and timing. If/when you adjust one thing you'll have to re-adjust everything. It can get very frustrating without a manual..

hey, great video but i am a little confused on the fuel lines... I understand what you're saying about the T off the main fuel line going from the pump to the carb bowl and attaching the side end to the in on the new primer then going up through the small line to the top of the carb... but what happens to the other fuel line that was going the the O.M.C. primer from the side of the carb? thanks for your help... Mike.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 күн бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. It depends on which type carb bowl you have. Some bowls only have the "line in" coming from the fuel pump, so you would use the "T". Others have the line in and a "line out" from the front/side of the bowl- normally there would be a brass drain screw & washer there- so use the front/side line out to go to the primer pump and don't use the "T". Hope that helps!

Good trick with pinning the bolt in place! Would be a permanent fix for me. My Evinrude 4hp definitely needs the throttle past the start point for cold and warm starts. Fuel delivery on these is an issue so it helps to raise the fuel tank to same elevation it would be in a boat (ie. 15 inches lower than motor). A spare starter rope to use on the flywheel will get you more bang for your buck than that recoil starter. Will save having to take a cordless drill along. Take care and may the the four be NOT with you anymore:)

What plugs are you running? I put NGK plugs (BR6HS) in mine and haven’t had any issues. It seems to me you have to have the throttle advanced too far forward for it to start, which of course also advances the timing plate. I’m thinking those plugs aren’t putting out enough spark to light it off at the normal start position, and it needs help from a drill (or a strong young man).
