Alright class, todays lesson: The only way to get TRUE analog sound is by using analog gear.
@austinedeclan10
@austinedeclan10 2 ай бұрын
Yes, but . . . 1) Though I like analog mixes, I love my DAW workflow 2) Have you seen the size of the gear and how much this stuff costs? (the good stuff). Don't have the space or cash to put or purchase the gear. 3) It also deepens my understanding of and appreciation of how analog works by trying (and coming close but failing) to digitally recreate the sound. 4) improves creativity.

That track is great, It's got a Cleo Soul Vibe to it. Love it. Now for the Haterade, that waves sucks bro. I mean it's better than nothing, but have you peeped the Airwindows console? It's free, and absolutely amazing. I've struggled to "crack the analog code" ITB, but I think I figured it out about a year ago. Well it's the closest to "true analog sound" (Which is more than just saturation) that I've had since I sold my "Neve Summing mixer", or since the consoles and mixers I worked on and studied on back in the day. It seems I'm a lil bit older than you, older enough to sonically remember the analog world a bit more in depth. I started out on tape / 4track etc etc. Dealt with modern ITB sonic woes to the point of mild artist depression (LOL, seriously). ITB always sounded flat and dull or boring to me no mater how perfect the mix, well used to. I can share my ITB method (plug in chain etc) if you guys are interested. 😁 I swear it works.

@@larrylomo4817 I would love to hear it.. been playing recording and mixing 40+ years, have a lot of great stuff, but definitely don't like the cold digital feel. I've recently started using clippers and saturation and that has gotten me very close to analog sound, and I smile more now when I hear back my mixes in Pro Tools. Would like to hear your methods.

@@leadfoot64 So this is the core of what is currently working for me in insert channels in logic pro... Acustica-Audio Salt EQ > Acustica-Audio Tiger Compressor (Comp and EQ order may vary) but those two plugins are absolute workhorses based on API, NEVE AND SSL models. AA plugins are not algorithms per se, but direct convolution based samples of actual analog gear. Been using them for years, but they have perfected them with the Ultra series plugins and extreme oversampling capabilities. Only use the Ultras they have a newer engine, and sound light years better than their old plug ins. Then I use Airwindows Purest Console 3 channel (Or as it is called in the Everyconsole version, Bshift channel preset) last Airwindows in the chain going to the stereo buss. It's imperative to use that last in the chain, that plug in will add dimension, depth and a more 3D soundstage like what analog summing can do. It seems to help with instrument separation and masking etc, allowing one to achieve "bigger sounding mixes"..
@larrylomo4817
@larrylomo4817 2 ай бұрын
After that Use the Airwindows Purest console 3 BUSS (AKA Bshift Buss) to decode (Basically brings the effects of the Channel version of the plug in back into cohesion on the stereo buss). They are designed to work in tandem. So Console 3 on last insert on channels to stereo buss, Console 3 BUSS on first insert of your stereo master buss. After that insert you can process how you wish with other AA ultra plug ins. The Acustica- Audio Sand Buss compressor is kick ass (basically a SSL G series comp), Oversampling higher will make it sound even better, but will hit the cpu hard. You could take it even a step further and use AA Lace limiter for more tone mojo options but don't kill your dynamics, you have to use you best judgment with AA plug ins. SALT and Tiger are desert island plug in because they contain many different types of compressors and eq in one plug in instance. Super Swiss army knife.

if you use one with the rate at 0 you can get only the "eq" effect of the flanger. flip the polarity to taste. much like queen-esche vocals. the mxr flanger/doubler rack/plugin does that too.
