Waltrip was, as he often is, absolutely correct. Profound. Prophetic. Funny how Fox simply cast him aside. Exactly as we'd expect.

The broadcast teams were so good. Now it’s just a big comedy show on Fox that takes away from the sense of drama and suspense, the true essence of man and machine and competition that draws people to racing in the first place. I don’t tune in to see scripted comedy segments with the drivers pre race, or to listen to Clint Bowyer call everyone “that boy” and call all the cars “hot rods” and to make a big joke out of everything that is happening on the track during a race. MRN has better coverage than what Fox offers. Oh well, who cares what I think, right?

Last Cup Race at North Wilkesboro. Until 2023. It is being modernized and returning to host the All-Star Race in May during NASCAR's 75th Anniversary season at that.

Nascar imploded itself. after Dales death..Nascar turned on leigons of seasonal ticket holders. when that kind of money leaves the track..tons of outside sponsored money will be needed to survive theor own suicide. thus the face of nascar truly did changed over season ticket holders and the mishandling of us fans.

Aaaaaaaand it’s fucking back and ironically Texas Motor Speedway, one of the worst tracks in nascar history with awful attendence and horrible racing is on the way out. RIP Bruton Smith, but also he was a selfish stupid asshole and NASCAR would have been better off if he was never born.

Ol DW was spot on in his analysis. The start of NASCAR's decline in popularity was the shuttering of North Wilkesboro. NASCAR had no control over the ownership of the speedway, but they had all of the control of the race dates and the tracks the dates are allotted to, they still do. There have been other things that have helped in the decline, some of NASCAR's doing, some not. Every race used to be a sellout, few are now. Some tracks (Charlotte, Talladega, Daytona come to mind) have torn down their back straight grandstands. Others have covered the back straight grandstands and less desirable seats with signage. Why? They can't sell the seats and don't want to show vast swathes of empty seats on TV. The fans have spoken, and continue to do so. I have been a NASCAR fan since 1966. I was a car owner/builder/driver in the old Winston Weekly Racing Series in the 80's and early 90's. Gone from attending several Cup and Xfinity races a year, to not going at all. Went from watching all the races, to watching very few. NASCAR needs to dump the charter system, dump stage racing and get rid of the "chase". There's an old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They attempted to fix something that wasn't broken and made it worse.

NASCAR has become a homogeneous and boring corporate event. Local tracks, local driving names, regional competitions and wildly different cars, that's what made NASCAR. I love vanilla ice cream but hate vanilla racing.

Moral of the story:abandoning the hardcore fans wants for causal fans who will forget about you when the next big fad comes around will always come back to bite you Towns like Wilkesboro and Rockingham needed nascar to support the local economy but nascar abandoned them, now nascar needs them back, but everyone had either moved on after the departure destroyed their town or won't stick their necks out for a company that stabbed them first

Greedy track owners ruined it as much as NASCAR did for allowing track dates to be taken elsewhere, the cookie cutter tracks have been such a joke for the last 25 years by one certain company, this track was unique and put on a good show. The baby boomers are dying off and NASCAR is struggling to keep millennials in its fan base, and the next gen car is a total joke and is proving to be unsafe as some people in the know pointed out earlier this year 2022.

There were 3 things that made me quit anything to do with Nascar, (1) was when they left North Wilkesboro Speedway. (2) was when Earnhardt died at Daytona. (3) was when Nascar decided to go WOKE about the Confederate flag. Each one of those drove me away and I haven't watched a race since and personally I don't care if they ever come back to NWS, I'm done with Nascar forever now. Btw I quit watching MLB in '93 after the rich players decided to strike for more money and didn't play a world series that year, and the NFL and NBA is just a bunch of rich WOKE cry babies so I don't and never will watch those again either. I've found that watching local races and sports is much better and deserve my money to support them. Look fans, we have the power to control these rich people when they do stupid things, but if we let them get by with it, we will always be at their mercy.
@LaPoboy2 жыл бұрын
Man, you really showed all those "woke" people. I'm sure they lose sleep from losing your business. I can't believe the players would ask for more money! Don't they know the owners should be able to exploit the players and pay as little as possible without complaint! Also, I can't believe NASCAR would ban the rebel flag! Its not like it represents a group of people who thought slavery was cool or anything...
@rodneywaugh85352 жыл бұрын
I was there that day...... Over 60,000 people were there every time there was a race.... And they said it wasn't big enough..... NASCAR just wishes they could get $60,000 at a race now

DW was right on the $$. I used to go to multiple races per year and never miss a broadcast on TV and now I may watch a couple of complete races each season.

On a somewhat related note, let's see if the concrete at Dover will be covered in weeds in a few years. The downfall of that track just blows my mind, a place that used to pack 144,000 in a densely populated market has declined so much over the last decade. It's a great track and I'll be heart-broken if we lose racing there in the coming years.
