When I switched to trick pedals I noticed that a slightly softer setup (somewhere medium) feels much better and that I am actually faster than with a very high tension 😅

i always keep my spring tension where i can rest my foot on the pedal and the beater barely misses the head

Two other points are proper height of stool too low or too high and position of pedals .funny when u play single bass drum your foot is straight right in front of you .if you play 2 bass drums with 2 separate pedals left and right foot are at angles but I see people with double pedals position the double pedal like a single straight in front .I personally use a double pedal but set it up like it was attached to 2 separate basses and it makes it so much easier to play double pedal naturally like double bass drums .try see if it makes a difference

Im playing faster and with more control in one month than the past 20 years, but I learned the technique wrong, im hitting the head on the heel down stroke, if is working so far should i keep doing it that way or "unlearn it" and practice it the right way?

YES WTF WHY were those Dying Fetus videos of John playing with them on the side angle taken down!?!? I have been searching them on and off for YEARS. They were awesome.

Mit großem Abstand das beste Video zum Thema. Endlich mal ein Video welches den genauen Ablauf der Technik selbst beschreibt und fragen die einem immer wieder durch den Kopf schießen einfach direkt beantwortet. Unfassbar hilfreich!!!!! Weiter so !!!! Heute war ich frustriert, morgen weis ich was ich zu tun habe 🔥

I believe that if you keep up on good technique and stretching and treat drumming as a physical sport-- muscle failure usually happens because someone is just not strong enough or hasn’t warmed up enough before playing…. Grab one of those weightlifting squeeze handles and that will keep your wrists very very strong and flexible to handle the long hauls of a practice or a studio recording

Record yourself constantly with a ZOOM or with a camera-- go back and analyze…. 😊

Use a double stroke on your blasts to stay consistent…. As well as your feet and 1 foot blasts… keeps you conditioned…. Always stretch and keep the sticks in the same hand for each practice, Right stick on the snare and left on the floor Tom after each practice…. Wear hearing protection just a lil gap on the left ear to hear and feel your acoustics…. Decibel poisoning after 3 songs will make you mess up…. Keep your hearing right and the drums will stay consistent…. ❤❤❤ Always wear the same pair of shoes 👟 And always tune your snare all of the tops “tight” and ALWAYS check the bottom…. ALWAYS tighten the bottom and make sure the the “snare” is tight…. All drums should have a ricochet bounce-- THANK YOU, BROTHER!!!!!! 😊😊😊❤

Can you clarify if the expectation is to still feel SOME strain in ghe thigh simply because of the slightly raised leg off the ground (on the pedal)?

Didn’t think I would make it through this whole thing, but it was such a great conversation that it did not feel long and I’m so glad I did listen to the whole thing. Also great to hear epic drummers be so down to earth.

Hello Bro, for so long, I have distanced myself from social networks a bit due to health problems (I am the one who always praised you and asked for immediate sponsorship from New Balance). I wanted to congratulate you and thank you once again for your contribution and help to the drummer who does not have the economic possibility of accessing your precious course, and also to ask you: It is necessary to be physically well, strong, well fed to be able to play drums and double bass drum in time. tall?? . Is it necessary to do physical exercise? . I say because I have observed the case of Nick Baker, and it is the complete opposite, and yet the guy plays very fast and apparently without any effort, beyond the years of experience he has.

Funny how on the ankle technique that I'm currently learning, my weaker foot is actually stronger and more able to do strokes using only calf

I'm the same ..my left foot is actually my dominant foot. I play a righty setup, but play hi hat with my left hand too.. so slightly lefty I guess.

I started taking warmups seriously about two years ago. My routine takes a little longer and it involves the whole body, so it's a little different from what Martyn is recommending. What I wanted to say is that the consistency of my playing has increased tremendously. The few times I've been late to rehearsal and had to start playing with the band without warming up I really notice the difference in looseness and ability to play compared to when I've had a proper warmup. So listen to Martyn and make warming up part of your routine.

incredible technique. those of you that employ similar techniques - do you find it important to sit as high as this example? his upper legs have a very steep angle, almost 45 degrees.
