In the UK we do not have caskets or vaults. People are buried in coffins which are designed to decay and become one with the earth. Why would you want your loved one rotting in a steel water logged box or mummifying? it just seems so weird to me.

All Cascket’s will explode over time as the rotting corpse throws off Gases.

The Body Rot’s inside any Cascket. Sealed or Unsealed. Regaurdless, You can’t STOP, water from getting into any Cascket, with a rotting Body.

Of all the (open casket) funerals I have attended, I have not seen anyone lying in one with their eyes open....That is a NON breathing human.....Maybe I will write THAT in my last will and testament: My eyes shall remain open so I can at least "see" who says "goodbye" to me, and who is actually distraught at my demise. Or, better yet, to show everyone I had or HAVE a sense of humor, position my body in the casket so it appears as if I'm laying in it "alive" and watching who comes in the room--maybe even prop my hand up as if saying "hello" OR "goodbye", maybe get some mechanical device to make it appear even MORE "alive" (to be "waved" at the funeral director's discretion?) 😶🤣🤣🤣 Would like the theme song to the HBO show Six Feet Under playing on a loop during visitation hours?

I notice there the lock mechanism is the seal is compromised, the sealing bubble is cut to accommodate the lock and doesn’t seal.

The occupant of the casket is deceased and has no idea what happens if the gasket fails or not. Only the living fools worry about such nonsense. My Dad was killed in an accident 13 years ago and I have not once worried about water flooding or bugs getting inside his casket. People need to focus on things they can control, period.

I've never understood why people get concerned about water getting into a casket. I realize that the deceased is a loved one, but they are dead, and are completely unaware of anything that may or may not be happening underground. Common sense tells us that everything degrades over time (including our loved ones in the ground), and so it's always seemed crazy to me that people would spend outrageous sums of money on a casket that is going to leak anyway. I'd much rather my loved ones save that money and use it to do something fun. Do it in my memory if it gives you comfort. When my time comes, I want my loved ones to cheap-out everywhere they can. Don't buy an expensive casket, a hole in the ground, or a concrete vault. Just burn me up and do what you want with my ashes. God will figure out how to put me back together one day. He created the universe from nothing, so I'm sure he can handle me.

It's amazing that even when the casket lid is locked down and sealed, gases that build up in the decomposition of the body can blow that lid right off. I'm assuming that only happens in crypts and not a casket that's buried in the ground where it has a ton of dirt on top of the casket.

What if you have someone that the family hasn't brought clothes? Do you have some kind of catalog you get clothing from? When my brother was stillborn in 1961, I saw a picture of him in his casket. I know we didn't bring clothes for him. I am trying to find a picture of what he may have had on for my mom. She wasn't allowed to go to the funeral. Thanks

I find very interesting many individuals fail to realize, no fault of their own. The dressing of a decadent has challenges and isn’t like dressing a living individual. Weight and lack of flexibility, being two challenges. Dressing Mort was a good representation of dressing a decedent, however you and I know it’s not that easy. Best regards

I want to be buried in a wooden casket with a bell vault and no chemicals....Our bodies, preservatives, sealed vaults leave a chemical mess. In 300 years everthing buried today will be gone (I think).

Why seal it? Buried in the ground, usually in a vault, seems highly unlikely for it to be opened. As for those rubber gaskets, only last a short time. Deteriorates as all rubber does, then the seal is gone. Even if no outside things get in, the body and the air trapped in upon closing a casket, mold will form, moisture in the air, would have to be vacuumed out. All the while no one will see the decomposition ( outside of an exhumation). A useless effort to a burial. The body is buried so it can decompose safely from the living. That's the entire purpose. Our culture dresses it all as a nice send-off, for this " rest in peace" pretend attitude. It's a nice thought to think the buried person will look pristine for many decades as it is seen at the funeral. Not how it really is.

My mother was buried a week ago in a sealed casket but before they buried her they opened the casket so we could see her for the last time, then they didn’t locked the casket when they buried her, is there any problem by that?

I’ve always been wondering ... when you are getting them dress and putting them in the casket .. do they still have their weight ? And also ... what do you guys use to keep them looking presentable if they make the funeral like weeks later bc my mom told me that if they make the funeral weeks later then they would be like an inflated balloon ..

Don't know if dressing a client is covered in embalming/mortuary school or something one learns during apprenticeship, but maybe for demo/practice, you should consider using life-sized drawing practice figures for more plausible limb manipulation. Like plushy Mort, they're not perfect, but they do add a restricted range of motion that's closer to an actual corpse. Also, maybe one doesn't always use them, but another level of "realism" would be putting plastic undergarments (don't know the proper word for the pants & shirts) on the deceased.

I had always wonder what sealed the casket. I had a friend that looked at one and he found hidden vent hole here the handles are.
