Since people will likely ask... I will have information on consulting services offered by Joe in regards to tube amp mods and repairs as well as vinyl rips. Stay tuned for more information, but you can email me in the interim if interested.

So a 2k$ for the amp and speakers. I want a proper review of this combo. Looks like a good synergy.

Very interesting video. I love the vinyl rips too (my KZfaq channel is about 95% of very good vinyl rips, 4K / AAC 192kbps, usually from 24/96 FLAC 0, with a few from 24/192 FLAC 0). The pity is that KZfaq uses too much normalization, which spoils the sound, especially with complex recordings such as orchestral ones. On Vimeo, the compression is much lower and the same AAC 192kbps sounds better.

While I respect this guy's passion looks like an absolute mess to me. Just my opinion. I'm also not digging the two components on top of the small DAC. That's quite a bit of weight that that thing probably shouldn't have on top of it

I've always considered myself a passionate audiophile - that is, until I see videos like this. This is intense stuff, highly technical and for people who know what they're doing. Me, I keep it simple. Two speakers (ADS 1230s), one power amp (Quad 405) and one preamp (Nakamichi 410). But I admire people like this guy who knows how to assemble such an impressive system.

These are the guys who buy a Bugatti Veyron and then feel the need to rebuild it so it will go fast(er). These are they guys to whom music is an inconvenience which gets in the way of them listening to their system. These are the guys who will never, ever, ever be happy with what they hear. These are the guys who spent so much on 'nanocrystal interstages' that they can't afford shoes or trousers which reach their ankles. These are the guys who don't need another 'upgrade' or another 'improvement' = they need a psychiatrist. 33 minutes. Not a single song, album or composition are ever mentioned. Not one.

You're triggered, but totally confused and ran to your keyboard too quick to emotionally vomit. He didn't spend anything near an analogy to a Bugatti. In fact, he eschewed looks for what's inside... and mods to a very modestly priced speaker that is more like a Toyota...and electronics like vintage cars. He also doesn't constantly change gear and buy a new toy for himself like many who are wowed by a fancy chassis, gauges, and whatever is "new". He's literally just taking what he has and making it better... in his opinion...on everything from recording to speakers to electronics. You can still make fun of it if you want, but when most people read them...they realize it says more about the person writing them than what the words literally say.

The Baach dropped the vocals down by about 2 feet at sitting distance when the system was tailored to my ear. Hmm. No speaker in the rear yet I was immersed in sound. Impressed an analog only guy like me. Amazing speakers that Jason built.

This was a fantastic video. My brother and I visited Joe earlier this year and saw all of this gear. I was lucky enough to purchase a pair of Joe's customized Audio Note Kit Interstage 300B Parallel Monoblocks with C-Core Interstage and C-Core Output transformers. I play them on my NX-Tremes and they sound unbelievable. Joe also helped me fix a problem with my PrimaLuna EVO 400 pre-amp that two trips back to the service center couldn't fix. He's the real deal. I also use the Kirmuss system, so this was a real joy to watch.

I don't understand why McCormick thinks that power output below 2 ohms is important. I have never seen a speaker that goes below 3 ohms, but there may be a very few.
@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie Күн бұрын
Where did he say it's important? I think you missed the whole point. There are speakers that do dip below 3 ohms to various degrees and some mfgs even quote stats down to 2ohms. However, the overall point is that it can be measured with this tool, and THEN you can accurately determine based on your speaker whether the performance at 1ohm or whatever is applicable or not.

In my experience, long speaker runs need to be shielded. That's if one appreciates a low noise floor, of course.
@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie Күн бұрын
Not sure where you got that advice, but it's actually the opposite. You don't ever need shielding on speaker cables and a long run would be especially bad because it would add capacitance which normally isn't an issue...long run + shielding can potentially create issues with high capacitance.

@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie 4 күн бұрын
What tests do you want done at an audio show? I provided music clips plus subjective reports and have connections for a dealer to hear them yourself. If you're thinking of spending this type of money on speakers, you need to factor into the budget a trip to hear them first hand like I've done first hand with Metaxas and others... No "test" is going to be enough.

Does the 888 sound better than the 10 (with a sub)?
@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie 4 күн бұрын
Depends on the sub and who set it up. A sub integrated properly and setup in the most optimal spot in the room can technically be an advantage, but in reality it's already done for you with the 888, so it will sound better for most. The 10 with a sub may have the highest ceiling of performance, but it's unlikely most people can set it up properly or have the tools to get that potential... And it still might not be a much higher ceiling than the 888

It's only for transformer hum due to assymetry on the line. It doesn't impact ground loops and doesn't matter whether the speaker is connected or not

I don't buy just because it's limited edition, on reviews that say its the best or this or that. I wait to see various reviews, whether written or video, and correlate what statements keep recurring as to lows, mids, highs, separation, stage size/placement to see if there is some consistency to what is being heard. I also have a sense as to reviewer's tastes relative to mine which takes time. That said, I have tried speakers I didn't like in some regard and sent those back while keeping speakers that seem to offer a good balance of attributes for my tastes and requirements. I watch for discounts, closeouts, etc. That's how I typically buy but would pay full price if I thought it would be worth it. Physical stores that have been in business for decades and have a website with good return policies are generally safe to deal with in my experience. I bought and returned a speaker that I had read about for many years and when a set of Dali Menuet SE came up I bought it. Couldn't say no even though there would be significant restock and initial/return postage. For my application it did not work but it was a nice speaker suitable for many wanting a smooth nearfield setup. So now I know and no longer feel the desire I had over the years. Still, I liked it enough and had heard the Spector 1 and Oberon 1 that when the Opticon 1 MK1 came up on closeout, half off NIB I jumped on it and have no regrets. For me, it performed in a way I needed versus the Menuet SE and also better than the lower end models. Pretty much I saved on the discount as the return of the SE cost me about that to return. Some places have a fantastic return policy, 60 days, $10 returns, etc., but I wouldn't abuse it to try a speaker. Even Amazon has adjusted their policies to prevent return abuse. While I am happy with my small system (downsizing) I am planning for future purchase that still fit my needs. Keeping a list (short list) of speakers, amps, etc., that could work well together in my space. I know what I need, what may be discounted or if there's a good used buy, etc. That takes time and experience. Regardless of price of equipment. So far, good higher priced low end/lower mid gear with good system matching for moderate SPLs are working out. Not perfect but enjoyable and still surprising at times. I have had more expensive gear and enjoyed it but it still takes effort getting good SQ out of smaller, lower powered, perhaps lower priced gear.

Many manufacturers come out with new models to load up their resellers with latest models. Indeed at times seen the demise of speaker prices of top of the line models sold to audiophiles. Some manufacturers come out with new look and feel models. I have visited some of the loudspeaker cabinet makers in China that are subcontractors for many well known respected brands. Like a puppy mill, easy to come out with new cabinetry. The move away from specs and delivering equipment that sounds great is a trend with some manufacurers. Highlighted in their promotions. Where do the thousands of unsold loudspeakers go when new modeks arrive... ?????

I wasn't picking on any particular brand, but there are many with business philosophies that are unfriendly to long term customer satisfaction and value. It doesn't mean the product is bad, but destroying resale value and making people neurotic about what they bought can be a big issue to consider. One red flag is if they or their dealers allow flippers to get hold of the gear, then it can be even worse because blue book value will get tanked fast.

Obviously they are going to sell only stuff from bigger MFGs that do high volume and good profit margins. It doesn't mean that it's bad gear per se, but wouldn't be my dealer of choice. That being said... They often have clearance rack/open box stuff that's decent quality priced good.
