After owning a battery mower I will never again buy one.

Used it again today, big Mistake! If you have a thick healthy Bermuda lawn, you will need to mow it twice if you want it to look good. With no control over the blade speed, there should be a nation wide recall on this mower.

I just saw one of these for the first time at Home Depot with a price tag above $1800.00. With the cost of a second battery running around $800.00, I could purchase four new Honda 21-inch (HRN 216) gas lawnmowers @ $549.00 each and still come out cheaper than this product. The Ryobi price point alone is a non-starter, much less replacement costs for extra batteries and the eventual replacement of the entire unit.

This is the worst mower I have ever owned. I am a yard guy. No control over the blade speed. By the time this mower realizes it needs to ramp up the blade speed, it is ripping and pulling the grass out of my yard because the blades are not moving very fast. Great expensive tool to knock down weeds, if that is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the review. I got almost an acre and have used the 40v Ryobi for the last 3 years. I love the cut quality, and the quiet. (I can mow a 7am and nobody notices). But it takes almost 4 batteries. This 30 could be my perfect solution.

We just picked one of these up yesterday. We'd bought a house last fall and hadn't cut the grass yet, so it was a good foot tall in places. The Ryobi worked like a champ, given the conditions, and I probably got a quarter-acre cut on one charge through thick grass and weeds that had a lot of moisture in them. Looking forward to seeing how it does cutting when the grass is a reasonable length.

It seems like the entire underside (not including the cutting area, of course) should be covered with a plastic cover (like an electric car). That would prevent wet grass from sticking into all of that honeycomb area and, more importantly, it would protect that motor/transmission component that drives the rear wheels. I don't think it would have cost much for Ryobi to include a cover.

When they're getting this big, I'd rather have a remote control than have to walk behind and manually steer. That would then open up the possibility of an auto mower version, but ryobi don't have any advanced software capability in-house. They'll have no choice eventually.

I'd definitely stay away from this one. Used mine all summer and it's going to be one and done for me. First battery was a dog and only got thru my 1/2 acre lawn a couple times on a single charge. Ryobi did replace it so kudos to them for that but even with a good battery, the cut quality is just not comparable to any of my previous mowers.

One thing you did not mention was the price of the mower. It's $2000.00 dollars , for the average homeowner thats a lot of money. When you can spend a 1/3 of that price and get a nice 21-22" mower that will do just as good or if not better than this mower. Only upside I see is the 30" cut, which is nice but then you can get the toro time master for a few hundred dollars cheaper. This is just my opinion, thanks for the great review.

$2000 is a scam. I bought an ego lawnmower in 2017, and I purchase the display model, since it was the only and first electric lawnmower on the market. I bought it for $650 plus tax but they include a $250 discount for taking the display model. So all I paid was $400 out the door. They include 2 of the 5ah 56v batteries. I have about 0.25 acre of land and it takes me about 45 minutes to mow using both batteries and recharging them frequently. For this mower, the maximum cost it should cost is $800, maybe $1000, but that's a stretch. After a few years, the batteries begin to fail and that happens among all electric tools and vehicles. No wonder everyone hates electric cars and all electric trend.

If you’re going to spend over 2k for a dang mower, get a Toro Turfmaster with a Kohler command pro engine. Don’t even bother with battery or s Timemaster. You’re spending that much just buy the commercial version with best engine and skip all these issues.

I've been waiting for this mower. I can't afford it and have no use for it other than a novelty, but totally dig watching it come out. I ran 30" Timemasters and love the fast 30" walk behind concept. I believe the fast 30" is as big a development as the stick edger and the backpack.

Got mine a couple weeks ago. I like it so far, but like you said, there is a simple learning curve. The blade RPM going up and down on its own is a little confusing to me because when it revs up, it doesn't seem to match the grass height. Also, my bagger bag and side chute were missing from my box and, going on two weeks, I still haven't received them. I kinda wish that I just returned it for another one vs. dealing with a trouble ticket. Mine also did not have the skid plate. I was told that the plate was discontinued from the unit but shows in the manual.

@@dubaudiproject861 Sorry for that long delay. I like the cut and everything so far. I am a bit concerned about long term reliability. I know it has a long warranty but some of the "plastic" type noises that it makes while maneuvering it around concern me a little. I spoke with Ryobi again, the service girl was fantastic on the phone, but I still have not received the missing parts. I sent a follow up email after about 2 weeks and have not heard back. I now wish that I just returned the whole thing for a new unit. I love the larger cut swath; I can mow my yard much faster. The battery charged very quickly. one mowing usually takes it down to about 65% and it recharges to 100% very fast. I like the way it can be stored upright too. I am going to give it until next week to see if I receive my parts before I start to ramp things up a bit.

Any regrets? I was looking at 21" $800 models and saw this 30" beast. It is $2k, but they have a deal for a free trimer and blower. For me I want something that can store well, cut quick, and get a little excerise. How big is your lawn, I have 1/4 to 1/3 acre?

I could have lived with the 4wd 21, but wanted a 30". My only regret is not waiting for toro to release theirs. Buying the mower with the deal makes this a slighter better buy than the electric timemaster that starts at $2.4K.

When the motor is at regular speed it sounds like a box fan. You can still have a conversation with someone next to you. When the motor is at the faster setting it like a box fan at high setting. You can still hear the person standing next to you but you have to speak louder. Another way to look at it. It sounds like a neighbor vacuuming their home with the windows open.
