As customers, we see accuracy guarantees daily. But what does it really mean? Does that mean the rifle will do it one time so it meets the guarantee or if I take a box of ammo and shoot 3 shot groups after 2 foulers, each and every 3 shot group will meet or exceed the guarantee (if the shooter is very good and very experienced)? I ask because I just paid about the same price you have for a comparable rifle and the seller put one box of ammo through it and produced a target with a 3/8" group using Hornady factory ELDM but didn't tell me how many times that happened. It's a 7PRC. Once I took delivery I put Hornady 180 ELDM (2 different LOT#s), Hornady 175 ELDX (3 Lot #s), and Federal 175 ELDX (2 Lot #s) - essentially 7 different ammo, three 3 shot groups from each and not one time did it ever group less than 1.5 inches. The barrel is a high end cut rifled barrel and the action is from a very well known and popular company. Jewel trigger, excellent stock manufacturer. I never let a barrel get warm either. Minimum 2 min between shots and 5 min between groups and I shot during winter when it was 23 degrees so that helps too. I had to ship it back and it's been rebarreled. It shipped back to me today. Another example is my first experience with a factory Tikka T3x Lite stainless in 308. Comes with an MOA guarantee. Mine never got there with Federal factory Gold Medal match 168s (2 lots), Hornady ELDX, Norma Whitetail 150 grain, Federal Power Shok blue box nor 3 different handloads including 168 Hornady ELDM in Lapua brass with 210m primers over VVn540, 150 Nos btips over Varget, same brass primer. It now has a Brux 4 groove 10 twist #3 barrel at 22" and an AG Composite stock. Now it shoots everything extremely well, especially the factory Norma Whitetail into the 0.2s nearly each time and has yet to print over 5/8" with it but I've only put about 27 rounds of that ammo through it. Very nice video by the way. I'd seriously consider that Pathfinder Predator if it came in left hand but I'd have to upgrade the trigger to a Diamond set at a pound

Thanks so much for your comment. I confess that I don't usually find the time to answer many comments on our You Tube Channel, but wanted to answer yours because you have hit the nail on the head regarding accuracy guarantees. To us, the guarantee should be simple and straight forward. While a lot of expertise goes into making a great rifle, they are not complicated. Good action, good barrel, good trigger, and precise fit between the stock and the action should always produce a consistent group with quality ammo. I think the challenge for rifle makers is "what do you do when a rifle does not consistently meet your accuracy guarantee when you test it?" Our answer is simple, " Don't ship the rifle". It is not worth damaging our company's reputation over. I think larger companies may just accept that a certain percentage of their rifles won't meet guarantee and they will deal with those as they come up. That is not our philosophy. How we test accuracy: After a short barrel break in period, we shoot the rifle off a front and rear bag rest in our enclosed 100 yard range. The rifle must produce 2 back-to-back groups that meet the guarantee before it ships. Their is no fouling shot or cold bore shot considered in the groups. The rifle starts with a cold, fouled barrel, three shots are fired consecutively, and that is the group to be measured. We really struggled with the accuracy guarantee on the Pathfinders because the vast majority of them shoot under 1/2 MOA. But, since we are shooting factory hunting ammunition, we also see a few that are just a touch over that. So, we put the accuracy guarantee at 5/8 MOA to make sure nobody gets a rifle that does not do what we claim. Over the last 28 years, I have found that most shooters know what they are capable of and you should always expect the rifle to shoot to your capabilities. We will have some lefties in the next run! You can always place an order for a left hand rifle as well and we will upgrade to the Diamond for $150. I hope that helps. I am glad you enjoyed the video. @@HillCountryRiflesTx You are the ONLY man to have answered my question and trust me, I've asked it a LOT. As you know, even good quality factory ammo is made within a range of "acceptable" tolerances. Sure they keep their equipment calibrated but still, you know and I know new factory brass will most often have different lengths, different neck tension, and powder charges that are not identical as well as primers that aren't seated to benchrest consistency. Kudos to you and anyone else making high end hunting rifles that will control those factory ammo differences shot to shot and lot to lot. Speaks volumes on the components used. Thanks for the cogent and timely response. For what it is worth I've only recently shot factory ammo. I started handloading in the 80s. In multiple factory and custom rifles, I have found Norma Whitetail and Norma Bondstrike to be the most accurate factory ammo I've ever come across no matter the cartridge or rifle and the brass is on the higher end to use for handloading.

I have a question... What was your muzzle velocity out of the 24 inch barrel? Did it match Hornady claimed specs? Or, is it true that their velocity claims for the 7prc factory cartridge are "optimistic" in their defensive competition with the 6.8 western? Why did you leave muzzle velocity out of the on screen specs? I might see if I can use the target energy specs to back calculate...
@MrTimmytimmytimtim
@MrTimmytimmytimtim 3 ай бұрын
Ok... So, using the info you supplied, it has to be a muzzle velocity of 3011fps to have retained energy of 2643 ft-lb at 300y. Did you chrono or rely on Hornady specs?
@MrTimmytimmytimtim
@MrTimmytimmytimtim 3 ай бұрын
Just watched it again, and you DID share velocities. My bad. BUT, at 2965fps out of the 24 inch barrel, my ballistic calculator says the retained energy at 300y is 2557 ft-lb, not 2643 ft-lb as you claim. I am using Srelok-pro. Am I missing something??? At 500y its 2086 ft-lb, not 2211 ft-lb...

I'm saying this because I'm actually considering buying a 7 prc with a 22"inch, but I'm afraid it might have too much kick without muzzle brake.. Thanks for any help

I hope you will answer this question. I see no one asking for verification of the velocity results in this video. Energy is a product of mass/velocity, correct? How are you achieving 1668 FPE at 800 yards, with the 175 ELD-X FACTORY LOAD? According to Strelok, you would need 3080 FPS with that bullet, to achieve 1664 FPE at 800 yards. And all the comments I see here, are just assuming the numbers shown are factual. I will agree with one response... 100 fps gain is not enough to sell me on a new rifle. At 800 yards, using the same bullet, that gain is greatly diminished. I'm a dedicated 6.5 PRC shooter, and 6.8W. As well as 7 RM. I have wanted to jump into the 7PRC game, but honest results in must rifles are not showing the results Hornady advertises. I hope you'll do another video, to dive more deeply into this topic, specifically as it relates to the 7PRC. Maybe even do a side by side comparison to a closely matched 7RM. Thanks
@CEdwards-yf3fp
@CEdwards-yf3fp 4 ай бұрын
You did not post velocities. With all the failed velocity results shared by many 7PRC shooters, your Energy Numbers can only be helpful and reliable, if you share the actual tested velocity results. Hardly anyone is getting the Hornady advertised velocities from factory 7PRC ammunition. Hornady claims 3000 fps, but most videos online are showing 2800-2900 fps, which is pretty close to 7mm RM performance.

It’s funny watching all the 7 mag guys lose there mind over the 7 prc. I love a 7 mag, but it’s obvious this is a better cartridge. If you have a 7 mag, it’s not worth upgrading. If looking to get a new 7mm, you would be nuts not to get the prc
@eddielombera5862
@eddielombera5862 7 ай бұрын
I think it’s more so of PRC owners making it seem like it’s just that much better than the 7rem mag when it’s not. On paper, it’s true, the prc gives you numbers and energy a custom 7rem mag gave you with hand loads and custom, faster twist rate barrel but I’ve yet to see factory ammo that gives you those velocity numbers on the PRC that Hornady claims. So many people are thinking all I need is a 7PRC rifle and factory ammo and I’m all set when that’s not the case… and you can forget the advantage of the 7PRC with anything under a 24 in barrel.

Using Srelok-pro ballistic calculator with the ELD-X 175gr at 2862fps from the 20" as they claim, the 500y energy on target is 1926 ft-lb, not 2047 ft-lb as they claim. That's with a G7 BC of 0.347. Thank you for this very well put together video. My only gripe is a potentially misleading statement at the end by the grey haired gentleman. The velocity (and therefore energy) retention at longer range has nothing to with the cartridge and everything to do with the high BC bullets that the 7 prc is meant to shoot (when compared to SAAMi twist/reamed 7 rem mags, which are not designed to shoot those high-bc bullets) All cartridges are just “vehicles” for muzzle velocity, after the bullet leaves the barrel, it doesn’t care what cartridge it came out of. Secondly, the 7 PRC is average at retaining velocity from shortening barrels, it is almost exactly 25fps per inch velocity reduction from 24” saami standard, which is the industry standard for barrel length versus velocity change. But like I said, great video; I just wanted to bring up the slightly misleading statement that velocity retention downrange is in anyway linked to the cartridge, it is not. Downrange velocity retention is all about bullet performance. But I do concede that some cartridges are made for modern high bc bullets, and some older cartridges are made for old low-bc bullets. Thanks!
