If it is not leaking then it is clogged. Clear the clog with SLR. Use flushing pump.

How about cutting the old pipes with a pipe cutter, pull out the old heater core, insert the new heater core with pipes cut at same place as the old ones, and just join the old and new pipes with heater hoses and clamps? would that solve the potential leak issues and eliminate the glue?

Did this end up working I’ll probably try it this way seems like less of a hack job than what they are showing here. I just did my evap core so the dash isn’t coming out again.

@@RevDevGaming I haven't had to try it yet. I replaced the evaporator in my '03 4Runner a couple of years ago and I definitely don't want to have to go through THAT again! I decided to hold off on replacing the heater core at the time because you never know what kind of junk you may be substituting for an old working core. Let us know if you try the way I suggested.

@@dougaustintx thank you for your reply, I’m going to give it a shot, the way they show in the video seems like a temp fix. I’m gonna chop the hoses and clamp them back together. I’m gonna just bypass it for now cause it’s summer but once I do it I’ll post a video on KZfaq of the process.

Thank you so much! My husband had every thing taken off on the driverside and then we stumbled across your video. Life saver! It works! The pipes are aluminum so you can take the pipes off to Fit the new core in and re attach the pipes with some Heat seal. Done in 30-40 min.

Awesome! I’m happy to come across your post I plan do to this very soon. Did you ever experience any coolant evaporating before changing? I have been experiencing a mysterious coolant loss because never had any visible signs of leakage or smells. I also had lots of gargaling noises from behind the dash .

How do I get the pipes through the firewall? Do I undo the pipes from the core?

@@floydian4evr mark the lines with a marker where they go into the core o the new one. This will help you when reassembling it. The lines go through the firewall pretty easily but don't lose the gasket on the engine side, which goes around both lines and attaches to the firewall. Shad the system before taking apart the currently installed one!!

has anyone actually done the repair as he shows, is is that simple? will the heater core wiggle enough to slide out and back in ? I have done a heater core in my other car and had to pull the dash out to do it. (around the 5:00 mark you say something that I don't understand. are you saying be careful and don't break it? did you glue it back together?) I don't want to sound like I am skeptical, but will the repair work for the v8 05 T4R,? if so, I will definitely try it - I am okay spending an hour of my labor + parts for a new heater core (my gut tells me it is more of a Servo motor or blend door issue) - I have the 05 T4R v-8 limited with dual heat control. I have random gurgling noise from the heater core area, on auto setting (23) I get lots of heat from drivers vents, and warm/cool on pass and rear vent, if I increase the temp setting on the pass side (up to 28-31) it gets almost same temp as driver side)

@@mishpea5053 what year is your 4runner? I'm really curious as to what the problem with mine is. On manual, at max hi heat it's fine on both side nice and hot. If I put on auto the driver side seems, but the pass side is about 10 degrees cooler

@@dk2140 2007 v6 SR5 When it -20 to -30 below my truck takes forever to heat. It would only blow warm air on the drivers side. My passenger was always freezing. It would never never push hot/ warm air on my passenger side.

when I look at the heater core, it looks like the top pipe twists behind and leads to the bottom of the core (therefore inlet) and the bottom pipe is actually connected to the top of the core (outlet) ?

4th gen is 2003-2009, not 2002. They started production in 2002, but the model year would be 2003. It's just frustrating for those of us with a 2002, when 4th gens keep popping up. Thanks for your video, though!
