this not hurt the foot i have problems with traditional afos because i don move all foot

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2004. I used a walker off and on since 2007. In September, 2020, I suffered a stroke which affected my left side, and I have a permanent left drop foot. My first orthotic was made by Hanger. I am 5'2", weigh 105 lbs, and the orthotic which cost Medicare $1,500, was like walking around with a ski boot on my left foot. I wear a standard shoe on my right foot, but to accommodate this orthotic I had to purchase a triple wide shoe for my left foot. I could not afford 2 pairs of the same shoe, so I wore multiple pairs of socks on my right foot. I live in Sacramento, CA, and a ski boot on one leg and multiple pairs of socks on the other when summer temps reach 115° is extremely uncomfortable, totally ridiculous, & frankly impossible. I have tried numerous over-the-counter orthotics to no avail, until recently purchasing Insightful's step-smart brace. It has taken me 3 years to walk with a cane. I have had numerous falls because of my gait, drop foot, and "freezing" (a symptom of my Parkinson's. However, when I put on the Smart-Step brace, everything changed immediately. My walk is much more stable and balanced. I find myself walking without my cane, forgetting it in another room. I know this is just the beginning. I have my 6 month Parkinson's follow up in July with my UCSF neurologist, and I cannot wait to show him the changes in my walk. We have been together for 20 years, & I plan to walk to him without assistance, for the first time in years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I"ve used this brace for years. it's the best. End of story. Don't waste your time and money on the ridiculous junk out there.

Hello, I have chronic posterial tibial tendonitis, is this the same as drop foot? My left ankle severely caves in inwards, I have rigid plastic orthotics in my shoes to help Would this brace help as well? Thank you

I wonder if it will work well with soft shoes like knitted yarn slippers, such as hemp yarn, preventing the crushing of the heal at the back of the footwear item?

It’s definitely a quality product. I used the StepSmart brace for an extended period of time. Every person’s symptoms are slightly different, but it is worth checking out. The relatively low price for such a quality product is one incentive. If it doesn’t work for you, at least you aren’t wasting 1000s of dollars.

Can you wear any kind low top shoe with this type of brace?

One minor problem on an otherwise excellent brace. The pad doesn’t peel back anywhere near as easily as shown in the tensor changing video. It is made of foam and after trying all I had was shredded bits and pieces which didn’t even begin to glue down right, and I never could expose the screws for the tensors. I finally changed to a low profile shoe which corrected 95% of the brace being a little to the outside of calf, but the heel end of the pad isn’t in great shape.

So the failed back surgery caused your foot to drop? Did they give you your money back? They do push these back surgeries a lot...with so so results.

Great new advancement. This looks a lot easer to put on. Good especially if you don't have full hand function. It looks like you can put it on with one hand. I would like to see how it is constructed. I will be looking into to it.

I love hearing success stories with the STEP-SMART. I have been using the STEP-SMART since 2017. I visited an orthotist near me in Rhode Island a few weeks ago. I wanted to know if there was anything new on the market I might have missed. He was impressed when I gave him a print out of the 15 different items I have used in the past 20 years, along with descriptions and pros and cons of each item. We went over my STEP-SMART and MASTED KNEE BRACE and how I function in them. We figured that I had the best appliances on the market for me. Any thing else available would be to cumbersome and uncomfortable. STICK WITH WHAT WORKS! Next time I am in Maine I will check out the strapless STEP-SMART. I am curious to see how it works.

I live a very active lifestyle. I've used your brace since 2017 but the lifespan of my brace was only about 9 months long. The resistance pieces would fall out/ the brace would break and another 200 dollars would be spent... I'm currently 30 years old and due to a knee injury at 15 I lived with drop for half my life. I've tried a total of 4 braces and that includes yours too. You all are my favorite. I'm just hoping to see how much activity this brace can take, from running, hiking, jumping, quick turns and if boots can be worn with this too. I know it's not common for young people to have drop foot but I'm hoping this strapless version can continue to do well.

It's a shame that this day and age we have nothing that works. I use bungee cord. One end on my shoe laces, the other end on my belt. It looks funny, but it works.

I like that the FOOT FUNNEL can be cut so I can use it with my STEP-SMART or MASTED KNEE BRACE.

It's too hard on the bottom of foot. Maybe making it more soft for comfort.
