Would you consider doing a video on how to wire your coil up? Where everything goes and comes from?

Any luck

Nice install! Is there a reason why you wrapped the exhaust pipe? Did you experience any issues with fitting it on the outside of the van?
@heyitsmesmitty4 жыл бұрын
I used the wrap to cut down on heat, since it was put in an enclosed area. Just out of precaution. The only real issue was getting it to fit between the floor and the belly pan, I had to cut a small section out of the rails which run perpendicular with the frame. Once the unit was installed, everything else is right there and super easy. Ended up putting the fuel tank behind the drivers seat. Works great!

Where is it located in the engine bay?
@heyitsmesmitty5 жыл бұрын
On the right side of the gas tank access panel. The regulator has a metal cover on it. Some helpful pics can be seen at this Samba thread: www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=466024

So did you ever get it running? I have a '76 Westy which I restored 20 years ago but it hasn't been running for about ten, so preparing to do some dirty work on it. I live in L.A. so eat your heart out, my bus is rust-free except for the batt box and the windshield lower edge.

check your fuel pressure or replace fuel pump and filter also check all vacuum lines make sure vacuum advance works on dist mine did this also until I replaced these parts now runs like mad bear good luck

Hey did u ever find out what was the prblem? My bus is sounding liek that as well

Think the biggest issue at this moment was that my timing was just too far off. I ended up moving the distributor around a bit until I found the sweet spot. That and vacuum leaks, always vacuum leaks lol

Thanks for this, ... 1st time I will be putting in a 2.0 engine, was a bear to get out. I do not have a ATV jack, just floor jack with plywood. I dread putting this in. Will keep in mind about the tranny.. SO tempting to cut the oil fill pipe, then join the pipes back together with a hose... would make life a lot easier. But Finally, a video on someone doing this! What about the foam seal around the back of the tin? Did you put that in somehow after the engine was in? Looks like it would have to go over the back tin just before the engine is finally seated in. Thanks!

You install it after the engine is in. I just did this in my bus... used the same process. It works well, but the upper bolts for the transmission mount are really the crux.

Hi Darlene, welcome to the wonderful world of air cooled VWs! This problem drove me mad as well. When I filmed this one, the major problem was with my timing, I had it wayyyy off. I ended up bringing the #1 cylinder (top right side of engine) to top dead center, then set the timing at 7 degrees, and that fix a lot of my problems. That and having a ton of vacuum leaks. But I went through just about everything on this engine, check out my Samba forum page for all the details: www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=649039&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I had no idea how to fix my engine when I started, but the people over on TheSamba.com are very helpful, and any questions you have, the answer can be found somewhere in that site. Good luck! If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help any way I can!

I'm resurrecting a1978 bus with Fuel injection and it starts and has exactly the same issues. I can keep it running by feathering the throttle but dies right away when I take my foot off the gas. It will not idle. I have checked for vacuum leaks and pulls my hair out. I see that you got it running well in later videos. What did you do to get it to idle? Any help is much appreciated.

They vertically vented and as you can see it did nothing to clear the top floor as there is smoke still coming out the window. VV doesn't work as imagined.
