connect to computer, open the midi file and you can change a kar to.mid and then it will play a so called .kar ending file .

Unfortunately, while this instrument is a technological wonder allowing a solo performer to be extremely marketable, it isn’t without its issues which are compounded when occurring at a live venue.

Do you prefer the Roland FR4X or the Musictech 50? I noticed you've played both, and I'm deciding between them. I'm not concerned with non-accordion sounds (strings, woodwinds, etc.) or portability, more-so with how convincing the accordion sounds are and the action of the bellows. Thanks!

Depends on what your performance needs are. Currently, I prefer the Roland, but if you’re interested primarily in accordion sounds, bellow shakes, standing while playing and not needing to stroll around, then the MuscTech.

@@JerryNicolato Thanks for the response! It sounds like the Musictech might meet my needs better. I did notice the dynamics seemed a bit less articulate on the Rolands, and I'd like to be able to do bellow shakes and other bellow-related nuances. I'm thinking about picking up the used CBA version of the MT from Liberty since I haven't found a US distributor that sells it new. Saw they also released the updated Dual-link version, but it's almost 2.5x the price.

Hi Jerry. Thank you so much for the video. I followed your instructions, but in my case, I tried to select other voices while the midi was playing, but I wasn’t able to do it, in other words, it doesn’t switch to the the same screen as yours. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a setting on the menu that you have and I don’t? I appreciate your assistance in advance. Alfredo

You should be able to select another voice by pressing on the USER VOICE tab on the front right panel and selecting the family i.e., PIANO, ORGAN, STRINGS, etc. and then your instrument. You'd save the same way as the video if you wanted the change to be permanent.

Hi Jerry, thanks for your prompt reply. I noticed that while the midi was playing, you pressed the style button and the registration button and you were able to access the registrations, but I’m able to. I’m able to access the voices but not the registrations. Thanks

Hi, I found a way to go back to the screen I was referring to (Registrations). While the MIDI/MP3/Wav file is playing press Player 1 twice and then REGS. Note: it doesn’t work if Player 1 is blinking. I think the way yours work is much easier but unfortunately it doesn’t work for me :( Thanks again. Alfredo

Hi Jerry. You obviously have a lot of experience with the accordion used with arrangers. I recently purchased a Roland 4x. I am picking it up this Thursday. Currently my midi accordion is connected to my Ketron XD3 with channels 1, 2 & 3. When I get my Roland, can I use the Roland interface out of the box to connect to my Ketron? To configure receive and transmit channels, can it be done on the little square interface on the top of the Roland accordion? I’m worried about this as I do not have a working computer ( in case that is a necessary requirement.) Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

Press right >21 times (MIDI) 5. Press Enter/Yes (Out/In: OUT) 6. Press > 1 time (Rx-Tx) 7. Press Enter/Yes (Accordion: 1) 8. Press > 1 time (Orch/Org: 1) 9. Press > 1 time (Bs/F.Bs: 3) 10. Press > 1 time (Chord: 2) 11. Press >1 time (O.Bass: 3) 12. Press >1 time (O. Chord: 2) 13. Press >1 time (O. FBass: 2) 14. Press >1 time (Drum: 10) 15. Press >1 time (Basic: 13) 16. Press and hold down MENU/WRITE (Write SYS) 17. Press >1 time (Write N Y) 18. Press ENTER/YES (Basic 13) 19. Turn off Fr-4x and then turn on again.

See directions for setting Midi parameters on a 4X, Just ensure your Midi Chord and Bass channel, for example: 2 or 3, OR 3 or 2, are the same Midi channels on your Ketron XD3.

I really appreciate all of the videos you make for accordion. Thank you. Unfortunately, my wonderful Limex system has malfunctioned and apparently the USA rep is out of business. Leaves me no alternative but the Roland. Owned a 3x few years back & did not like it. Bellows & keyboard were stiff/slow. I sold it…now I am thinking the Roland may be the only alternative.
