Thank you for this wonderful program. I lived in Gorleston from age 10 until 28, then moved to Kirby Cane Nr Bungay. 90% of these roads hold no memory for me (sadly), and the historic aspect I had no idea about. No local school I went to ever mentioned any of this. It should be put into all school history lessons (get to know and appreciate one's home town). Now in my 70s and living in Scotland, I devour local history. Thank you again for such an excellent insight.

Thank u for the fantastic video. Extraordinarily interesting to me. I lived in G.Y. a long time ago, and worked as a bus conductor, so know all the roads u mention. I wonder ... can u tell me ... at 2.0 ... the map shows 'MOAT' along the top. Very odd. Questions - are there still traces of this moat in existence? Second, why build a moat when not far away is the sea ... ie, why not build your defences around the city down to the sea shore each end, like, for instance, the huge defensive forts surrounding Dover?

👍 I like this material, it works as a great intro! I hope the new market turns out to be as great as expected by allowing GY's old local businesses to continue their activity.

one of my earliest memories is standing amazed before the machine that made the rock in full public view. I would have been about 5 and it was a truly magical moment.

I was in Great Yarmouth this summer and walked the trail of Elizabeth Bradwell, as I have embroidered a panel in remembrance of her as part of the Medicine Spoon Memorial project for women killed as witches in the various hunts across England and Scotland. In the video your refer to the execution taking place in December, which I have seen in some accounts. However the burial records now show that the women were buried on 27th September, which I assume was also the date that they were executed or at least in the days preceding. I would have thought that the burial would have been the same.day of swiftly afterwards given they were seen as witches and people would not want them hanging on the gibbet for long.

Nana and Grandad used to run the Two Bears Hotel. Dad brought our family out to Australia in 1970, and every time Nana and Grandad came out to visit us, they would open their suitcases and WOW -Great Yarmouth Rock - every colour of the rainbow. This sure brings back happy memories. Thank you for sharing.

We've been visiting Thrigby for quite a few years now, & when visitors come over from Australia, we try to make a ooint of taking them there, one of the fascination in common, is how close they can get to the Tigers! .
