Wow i almost gave up hope on konami and then they surprised me with this. Looks like a great game and they incorporated plenty of call backs to old silent hills. So psyched they used germany as a location,I am German and yes we have many cool, abandoned silent hill-eque places there. It's a cool concept to tie in bots and pieces of Japanese lore within the game and modernize it with the social media/isolation/ mental illness themes of this game. Silent Hill has always been great at approaching subjects other games or media doesn't like to touch.

I find the choice to gender-swap the protagonist's parent-child relationship between the novel and the 1998 movie quite interesting, because on one hand it arguably erases the gender politics of the novel by taking a married reasonably well-to-do salaryman refusing to take on parental responsibilities away from a narrative criticizing how parents raise their children and replacing him specifically with a divorced single woman, thereby judging her for her failure to conform to feminine domesticity. Then again, one could also argue it makes the final act of total rebellion against society at the end all the greater in a way, like "Oh, y'all want me to step up and be a good mom!? I'LL STEP UP AND BE A GOOD MOM!"

You do a really good job on your videos and this is no exception. I'm trying to get myself into a Japanese language school to increase my skills enough to do translation work and I would love to help you on your videos once I'm able. I've hit a couple roadblocks but I'm looking to enroll in a couple years. Should I get to that point I'll reach out again. I know a bit of Japanese and I can look up words and kanji easily, but my skills aren't up to par with these kinds of in-depth analyses. Anyway, I'm a big fan of your work! I'm a bit late but I'm looking forward to your other Fatal Frame videos! It's a great series!!

I personally enjoyed homecoming. Though the story is loosely tied to the actual silent hill story. I enjoyed the atmosphere and combat . Plus the depth of graphics and adventure are very well put. Kind of like ascension which I enjoyed watching despite being thrown together in a hurry.

I adore your videos! I've always had a soft spot for Homecoming in spite of its flaws and it's nice to hear you tackle it in such a fair and positive manner. I also love seeing more parallels between the movie and the game as well. There were a few I hadn't realized. Wonderful job once again!

Wow! What a well researched video, a job very well done. I personally prefer the American version, but you have grounded the original version in the sociopolitical climate at the time. The various nuances of Ringu makes so much sense the way you’ve explained it. Hats off!

This was an amazing video. I always held the feeling that something did go wrong with this game, a lot of people saying it's fundamentally broken. Yeah mechanically, maybe, and when you play DMC you prioritize the gameplay first, but with this deeper look it's pretty obvious that there was a lot of potential, could have actually been the best DMC game. It's still a mystery to me what exactly happened during its development but most likely scenario...rushed.

The design elements like the characters looking like irl actors from movies for example is not surprising. Artists from every medium from drawing to painting to sculpting (ect.) use real life references all the time to help create accurate depictions of whatever we need it for. Especially if you’re new to a medium or you’re just wanting to be as realistic as possible then you would refer to real life references. Everything about the PS1 and that generation of video games in general were brand new to everyone in the industry, so you’d need all the help you could get if you were gonna develop content for the PS1. I just don’t want people to think that the developers were being lazy. They were very smart and knew what they wanted and Silent Hill is the best game on the ps1 in my opinion

In what was ways was Guy Sihi a "total shithead"? (genuinely asking) because all i know of is one stupid comment he made on his personal facebook during the pandemic... if that's all it is I wouldn't say that's being a "total shithead", plenty of people were under immense stress during that time period

It's a good game. But the combat, especially now, it's boring, the otherworld is mostly relegated to escape sequences and the story albeit promising it's not very fleshed out and that gripping, but it's not bad. It could have been the beginning of a new take on Silent Hill, but reviewers and Konami buried it. And now it's a freaking expensive game.

I saw Bloodlust around the same age as you, late teens or so? Something like that. In the days where you could buy an "action" figure of D at Suncoast Video. I worked at Barnes and Noble a few years later, when the first book was translated. It was a blast, and read the next 2 in rapid succession but took a break. A decade or so passed, and I got back into the character his incredible world. I read book 4 and while my tastes had changed and I had difficult appreciating the prose (or at least the translation), all the amazing little weird, fun, dark details were in there. I couldn't put it down. Even book 5, which was my least favorite by far, was still great in its own way just due to the atmosphere and weird shit that popped up every other page. I just finished book 6, and bought books 7-10 on impulse. I have to read them all, now. I'm in too deep. I had always planned to, but now that I'm pushing 40, unlike D I know I don't just have an indeterminate amount of time left to enjoy things. In the middle of all this, I rewatched Bloodlust again at some point, and actually cried during the scene where the ship that would take the doomed lovers to the stars is revealed. I had tears in my eyes just looking at something so achingly beautiful that was forced into existing by sheer willpower of the artists and writers of the movie, as well as Kikuchi himself. That something so in-depth, ancient, and realized could be plucked from the imagination of a person, and shared between a whole team of creative people and made into reality just hit me so hard in that moment. The power of the human imagination is one of the reasons to be alive. When I read the books now I just try to put as much effort into imagining it in my head as the animators did into bringing the nightmare world of 12,090 AD to life. And that's what I love so much about the series, even if the individual books can be a little hit or miss for me. The world Kikuchi created and that we all share just has so much potential. It's like Samurai Jack in that way. Every episode is a new problem, a new monster, a new town to save. D has 10,000 years of such adventures under his belt. There is no end to it, no lore that is fully revealed and thus ruined by over explanation. It's a world of darkness, mystery, and infinite potential. And through all that time, he has had to not let himself become attached to anyone or anything. He can't let himself do that or it will just hurt all over again, forever. But he still does the right thing in the end, he still gives a slight smile to a person who needs it and transforms their hopelessness into hope. Ugh, UGH. Anyway, great video!
