Should have gotten deeper into this one. I've played through it a couple of times. The music is often terrible and on occasion inappropriate for what just happened. The sad town music plays incessantly in the game. It's not bad music but it is way overused. The plot starts out strong and has a dark, dark story to start, but really peters out by mid-game. The Black Devils are imposing and terrifying, but you spend most of the game dispatching them AND they come off those bungling fools by mid-game. There's a great deal to look at on this game, wish you would have given it a deeper look.

I played through the whole thing but yeah, there's definitely problems with it. I just didn't really have as much issue with it I guess.

Maybe you're not as old and cranky as I am :D! The "alarm" music especially, it was so wafty and airy that it really didn't give me the feeling of "oh shit, here comes the Imperial Army"! Maybe I was just spoiled by all the Squaresoft stuff.@@CidsaDragoon

Yeah I finished reading Umineko long time ago, but the music from the game stayed with me like forever. I remember those heavy techno vibes , they were mixing electrobeats with every type of music J-pop , rock , classical . Later I discovered only a few other games with similar music : Lost Technology and Noel Mortal Fate . No such music is produced anymore!

@@CidsaDragoon well we can say the same about Policenauts as well too and everything. It'd be great if there was a complete re-release for modern consoles and everything. Still I definitely like and enjoy coming back to this game a lot

@Cidsa Dragoon Gaming Yeah no problem. I like your style. Concise, informative, and you handled the adult content like an adult instead of making a bunch of cringy jokes and puns. I will check out your other videos.

I seriously love the art style but the concept art and the in-game pixel art. have great clear blocking with bright colors. Because I'm color blind I love high contrasts and loads of colours

A PC or console port would make this game such a biiig favor. Not only just accessibility wise, but with the technological advancement of 23 years since the release of D2, the hardware booting noise wouldn't be as noticeable as it was on the DreamCast. But, that's just some food for thought, one can only hope D2 ever gets a re-release of the sort. :0

I fell in love with this game in my youth and wish it was still available for cheap. Now nothing for Dreamcast is affordable... I remember being lost as a kid and trying to find tips in the disk booklet only to be unable to read anything because my copy came from Canada and was printed in Quebecois... Hahaha...

Great overview of this game. This was a deeply symbolic and almost poetic horror game comparable to the likes of Silent Hill 2. The commentary of the game isn't unlike that of Metal Gear Solid 2. Clearly the game had inspiration from the likes of David Lynch and even John Carpenter's The Thing. It's a very unconventional game in general. The shifts in gameplay dynamics and the ambiguity of the plot likely turned off many American players. But this video nails it. Despite having a lot of unusual qualities there's great stuff in here. Very ambitious in its direction and themes explored. Great video for a tragically hidden gem!
