it would be funny if you created a controller that could be flipped upside down mid match to account for the robot getting turned over

You are probably using a flight controller of some kind? It has an IMU on board and can detect if you are upside down or not. You've done a decent job of mapping your controls so they work in the same orientation on the controller whether you are upside down or not. I can't tell from your level of control that you right side up or not. I'm going to say I was wrong about drum spinners...they don't get under your edges all that much and throw you. now I'm curious about vertical spinners throwing you! I could swear your height would be a problem, but I think so far it's not.
@GotterRobotics
@GotterRobotics 3 күн бұрын
I am not actually doing anything fancy with the controls. When I am upside down I focus more on pivoting than moving forward. I agree on the "mid-height" being a potential liability. It is still a running experiment, but it has worked well for me so far.

@@GotterRobotics Oh really? So you are just using steering backwards when you are flipped over? Well you've practiced. People that don't map their controls flipped often times are less controlled in their movements since they have to translate in their head.
@GotterRobotics
@GotterRobotics 2 күн бұрын
@@de-bodgery With my bot steering remains the same, but forward and backwards become inverted.
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery 2 күн бұрын
@@GotterRobotics Depending on what receiver you are using and if it has an IMU on board, some will invert all the controls for you so you don't have to manually invert anything. Lots of transmitters can also map a switch to invert certain control functions. It would still require you to notice your bot is flipped over and then flip a toggle switch, but after that your controls would all work the same flipped over or not.
@GotterRobotics
@GotterRobotics 2 күн бұрын
@@de-bodgery I did that with my fairy running a malenki nano HV. My ants are brushless running Readytosky FS2A 4CH Receiver AFHDS 2A. Unfortunately that can't invert with a switch.

His blade might not have been very sharp. There is one hit that got Karlton379 straight to the tpu. It literally bounced off!

@@GotterRobotics Spinners of whatever kind are usually blunt force weapons. They don't so much slice as punch a hole! About the only spinner that actually cuts or slices uses a thin blade. Most people don't use them since they are fragile and easy to bend/break. Same for drills. I was thinking of designing an overhead drill weapon using an HSS end mill. it would be much tougher than a drill, quicker to penetrate and would probably take a few hits and still work OK.
@GotterRobotics
@GotterRobotics 2 күн бұрын
@@de-bodgery That could work!

Next iteration of Karlton, make it lower to the floor so you can't get flipped so easily. It sits too high. Under cutters can get into your shufflers too easily I like that there is no top or bottom and it moves equally well in either orientation. Other detail is shuffle drive needs to be faster. Everything on wheels is going to be able to out maneuver you.

Thanks for the tips. I’m going to stick with the unconventional mid-height design for now as it has served me well through two tournaments. Check out my next video to see some of the improvements in mobility.

I'm not going to lie. It was pretty rough on the family and I. The blood sweat and tears to get to that point was intense. Either way, It was a good learning moment for the kiddos. I would rather win clearly and have it taken than clearly lose. To this day I tell people Karlton379 "kind of" won his fist tournament. When they ask what that means I show them this video.
