This was awesome Chris , I have a German shorthaired pointer that currently shed hunts, but I live in a Rural area and would love to have her help out some local hunters during their tracking. Thank you so much for this really easy to understand step-by-step look forward to continuing watching your page.

I’ve got a 1 year old lab I’m working with. He is good with dowel, bumper and other items. However, this evening I tried with a frozen and thawed bird and he was mouthing so much I could barely stop his mouth from moving. I don’t like using that much pressure on a bird out of fear of creating a negative connotation. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Jeremy. Found this video helpful, but felt like the last question you helped us on stopped just as my problem started. Everything you said is exactly what is goin on with my 2 and a half year old german shorthair pointer. He does well with retrieving....and he has been hold conditioned. He goes out and picks up your dummies with wings taped to them all the time and brings them back, holds them, and heels with them. But as soon as i try a frozen bird that has thawed just a little so it isnt an ice cube. He wants no part of it. I've tried to make it exciting ...he runs out to it and juat ignores it. Ive tried hold conditioning him with a dead bird. And he even fights me on that. But ...the bumpers work geat. And balls. And other things with feathers taped to them. But struggling with real birds. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

People seem to forget that dogs are not machines. They are living beings, you can NEVER expect perfection from a dog and if that’s what you want then an animal is not what your looking for

Used your kit to train my pup to track wounded deer over the last year. The kit and training method definitely work. As this video says, you have to put in the work and know your dog as well. Will definitely use the info and tools again in the future!

How long should you expect before the dog gives in? I’m on day 3 … 15 min sessions. My GSP won’t stop fighting it. I’ve tried a bumper … different sizes and even went to a towel wrapped up. Will he eventually stop fighting it ? He’s a 1 yr old.

Great vid. I have a two year old springer who was going great at 10 months. All of the sudden we had a melt down. No confidence,no obedience, it was a mess. I started over, hallway retrieves, check cord recall with treats. We started indoors slowly moved outside very small steps. She will be two on 7/1 and we just got two of our junior hunter qualifications done. You can do it! Start over, you’ll be fine.

best i can tell it appears Jeremy is training a belgian malinois breed which is a very high energy dog with amazing athletic abilities. More of a police / military canine. They will test your patience and training skills. Good news is they are fast learners.

I think it is the way the dogs are familiair with the commands they learn, the way of sending out a dog and get his attention and let them focus. The steps you take before sending out a dog. The dog memories this steps. A dog knows he must run as long until he sees or smell the dummy/bird. A dog can’t estimate how far something is. He can memorize where the dummy is coming down, but he don’t how many yards. When he must retrieve a dummy in a straight line, he doesn’t know how far it is. But he has learned he must run as long he can see or smell the dummy. The line is importent and is your dog on the left. Point with you left hand. But also that is more the way a dog is used to. If you do it with your other hand, the dog can get confused because he never get his command with the other hand. So right or left is not importent. Use the same all the time. In some video’s the dog is send out without pointing at the direction. Because the dog knows ‘back or out’ means run in a straight line. Important is that which command you use, the steps you make or use your hand. Do it all the same way, same steps. It is all in the association in the learning process and not in that there is only one way to teach them. But great video anyway. Give me the confidents that distance, time and frequency are importent in the learning process. That when my dog retrieve from a short distance the first time, it doesn’t mean he can do this when I make the distance bigger and that 1 meter is enough a dog can be not understanding the exercise anymore. Or he can retrieve a dummy from a long distance on a field.but when you change the surroundings, I have to start with step 1.

Rushing your dog due to the calendar is a real thing. That is the main reason I go to game farms. Yes they are planted birds but they are birds . I don’t need to rush because the birds will be there when we are ready.
