Great video. I'm due a 700w battery station, and I think cooking with a smaller surface with a lid (as efficiently as possible) may reduce consumption even more. Thanks for showing us the real effects.

The amount of people with those horrid gas stoves with long thin gas bottles lying horizontally is scary. Ive had one burst into flames. Its a design flaw. I know they support bigger pans which is handy and the gas bottles are cheap but if going with gas in a van its better to have a larger gas bottle in a locker thats vented or a more portable trangia type where the bottle can be kept away from the flame and the bottle can be unscrewed easily when not in use. p.s you can transfer gas from from the cheaper thin gas bottles into the stubbier type with a simple cheap brass adapter off ebay easily and still use cheap gas.

Another thing to use would be inexpensive cotton gloves with rubber grippy dots on them! I am going tent/van camping with the tent next week (can't wait!!!) Lynn (AvianMariner)
@elainenilsson5472Ай бұрын
I have to wonder if maybe a lean to would be easier set up. Attach two corners of a tarp to your tent or rebar and then slightly lower at the other end where your car is. Then again I'm probably missing the problems involved with that because this is only in theory, lol...theory in my head too.
@avianmarinerАй бұрын
I did put up a video (or 2) where I set up a lean-to attached to my Pacifica. The problem is that if I have to go somewhere, it means taking the tarp down before I can drive... lol. The 10'x10' awning is a structure. Once it's up, I create an area to sit under, and also set up my cooking area. I can not be in the sun because of too many years of exposure (my dermatologist has been treating me for pre-cancerous "spots.") The video was filmed to show that one person can set it up, and there are no instructions needed. Tarps can't be tied to trees, bushes etc in most camping areas. I have been researching retractable awnings for the new, (to me) Cargo van that replaced my Pacifica. Lynn

Check where the gasket around either the back or side doors are. Sometimes it I’d so thick with a slight gap you can run wires in that way without pinching the wires. I know someone with a small PMC cargo minivan camper that put a panel on their roof rack & ran the wire in through back corner of the side slider door. 3 years later no problem & the gasket soft rubber grips around the wire making a water tight seal when door is closed.
@avianmarinerАй бұрын
@@karinhart489 I did. Unfortunately my van has no space between the door and frame for wires. I put a 12 inch test wire on the back, and after shutting the door it crimped the wire. A lot. Also, the gasket leaked inside when I tested with a water hose... ( the wire was like a drip line) It may be a great option for others though!!! Thanks for sharing that for some it might work ! I believe it might have been ok on my Pacifica or a Kia Van I had Lynn

Nice to see you made it up here/beyond and back, safe and sound. I'm considering doing a quick trip to the Indy 500 and back, hopefully with a day or two at the USAF museum in Dayton. I've been to the race many times, but the airplane museum is one of those places I've passed nearby plenty of times, but never had time to stop and explore.
