With regard to ecstatic crowd reaction, there's a bit more to this than the music alone. The song was 1) banned in the Soviet Union in 1964, 2) at that time had the most demand (and attendant risk) in the Soviet music underground market, and 3) many in the crowd remember (while the others know). And here it is being played by McCartney in Red Square. That's progress.
