chrome sockets are harder than impacts over time it will hammer the anvil on the gun. Plus the weight of the socket is what matters on stuck fasteners. Sñap-on makes a set of extra heavy impacts for this reason

I am a professional technician and I have been for 32yrs now. I started out with mostly hand me down craftsman from my dad and other family members. I made what I had work and I also borrowed tools from coworkers - I followed the "if you borrow it twice, you buy your own" rule and I bought a lot of "crewline" stuff from Kragen auto parts (Now Oreilly's for you younger folk). As my career progressed and I broke more and more tools, I began buying from "the big three". Today, I have around $150k in tools and 80% are Snap On. I RARELY warranty a tool and I use the hell out of them. Here is where I am in this whole HF vs USA tools debate. HF does fill a HUGE void in the tool market when you are talking about the home DIY'er or new guys coming into the repair industry empty handed. In my opinion, HF tools are not meant for the every day professional side of auto repair, not even their icon line. I have seen these tools break time and time again, the sockets split super easy, the wrenches slip, the ratchets can't take the same force a high end tool can, etc, etc. They are good to get your feet in the door, and should be replaced (i.e. moved to a home box) sooner than later. Most of the guys I see making comments on social media or youtube about how great icon tools are, they don't use them every single day in a professional career. Not all users have issues, I said MOST. It is true that a tool does not make a good tech, but a GOOD tool makes an efficient tech and gets the job done with the least issues and less frustration. Now, these are just my opinions and observations over the years AS a professional.....but I have always stuck to a motto - Buy Once, Cry Once. HF tools have no place in a professional setting because they are just not made to a high enough standard to survive the daily rigors of the auto/aero/marine/HD industries.

HF employs more Americans workers than snap on. Snap on also has Chinese factories HF uses Taiwan factories. Snap on also uses scandalous tactics. Like made in usa using global materials. We all know bahvo has dual 80 parts in some of their ratchets. Where is the anvil and pawls come from? Snap on also rebrands and almost all tools and snap on collectable are china made. If snap on could they would go overseas they just know it would kill their business

That's easy for you to say PowrStrokeJude, You worked long hours, sacrificed and saved where you could. Living off of Ramon Noodles and packing a lunch for weeks, months, and years. Staying after to help the shop keep its customers happy. You even counted the minutes on your phone plan. Well yeah...if people were to do what you did , sure they could make an investment in top of the line tools. But these days who has time for that? This is 2024, a time when Netflix will release the whole season at once. Just buy it from grandma and be done. Google HF on your Iphone 15 and lets go......We can be back before Naked & Afraid: Last One Standing comes on.

" We can just import more ratchets and flashlights from the next closest poe-dunk motherland " said I. Marvin Greedy, the spokesman for Grandmother Importing Limited. In response to the reports that the factory had only a single open emergency exit and killed at least 119 people in the scurry to find an open door. " This is why we employ so many children, they have better reflexes and can help the elderly workers make it out in times of danger ". A school bus seat can fit three children under the age of ten, whereas only two adults will fit in the same space. It is important to get the children bussed to the next factory where they can continue making the Pittsburgh Deep socket sets for our Inside Track Club members.

Did you know that you can buy bluepoint wrenches on the Snap-on truck, use them for 3 years, or however long you need to. When you are ready to upgrade to Snap-on you can trade in your bluepoint wrenches at full retail towards Snap-on wrenches. You basically use bluepoint as a starter tool for free.
@PowerStrokeJude
@PowerStrokeJude 2 күн бұрын
Snap-on and Matco always have beginning tech starter kits that include a tool cart, wrenches, pry bars, a ratchet, an impact and sockets. The tools can vary and some dealers will let the tech choose choose his tools. These kits are usually start around $20 a week for 48 months, fewer months if you make bigger payments. I dont think that is getting screwed over.

Its cool what Harbor Freight does for trade schools. That can't be ignored but the 28,000 associates they employ sure could use health benefits, a 401k, and a decent wage
@edtheoldtechguy
@edtheoldtechguy 2 күн бұрын
I believe many do have benefits except the part-timers. This is a retail environment with brick and mortar stores, and this is the way that business is done in that environment. No different from Home Depot, Pets Mart, or any other store. Kids wanting their first job sure need more places to apply where they don't require experience, which is what will be expected for benifits and a 401k. Harbor Freight isn't perfect but it isn't the boogy man, and thats unfortunately what many want to make it with comments like HF supports China 100% Their recent changes to begin including made in the USA products on their shelves and exploring made in the USA tools should be applauded, not criticized.

The best tool is the one that works for you that you can afford. No manufacturer makes the best tool in every category. Cheap tools are used by many mechanics to make a specialty tool to get in to an area that there is no tool made for it. Better to grind & weld on a $5 wrench than a $50 one. Especially if you wreck the tool in the process.
