Nice job on the video overall. However, you said that "The ATF did not require import marks until 1986". This is incorrect, the addition of import marks was required by the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968, the idea being that the ATF could go to a manufacturer with a serial number and trace the gun down through sales to the end purchaser. So that is 18 years earlier. This is specified in Section 923(i) of the GCA 1968. All of that short strap looping through the buckles is ridiculous. LOL What a fiddly design. They actually expect soldiers to do that to make a loop sling😂😂😂

Some rifles also have the followers ground away at an angle which allows the bolt to ride over on an empty magazine. Seems like a pretty common modification on M1917s

@@noahqiu8016 When I got this M1917 it had the back of the follower ground down as you mentioned. I have since replaced that follower and the one in the video does have the hold open.

@@Clancy192 You push the bolt forward and back, but do not lock and close it. This allows the extractor to grab the case but does not cock the weapon.

An American-made reproduction of the sling is available. This is good for collectors and reenactors. Do you know if the sling was ever used on the Garand?

I used one of those reproductions for the video. They are well made. The sling was approved for the Garand and can be found in the TM. I do not know how much it was actually used on them though.

People don’t understand that there’s a reason why they were going to pick this carbine as the main service rifle. It’s reliable and accurate. It all comes down to training. Don’t spend 2 grand on an AR that’s just gonna sit in ur closet just to get wiped out by a peasant rifle(which is like 80% of the gun community I know)

It's an improvement in material. I think it's more complicated to set for the loop sling if you are changing configurations.

@HistoryinFirearms yes. It definitely looks more complicated. I always prefer web to leather though, I think it's much better for military applications. A lot of my old leather slings haven't stood up well to harsh use.

@@HistoryinFirearms have bought two. Both are supposed to be for Garand on 03A3. One too short and the other is missing a piece. Cost of returning them is not worth it. The short one I think is for a Grease Gun. Which I can only wish I had.

There's a war movie made by Spain in 1970, 'Eagles Over London, which shows the PIAT being held like this. (although it is set in 1940 during the German invasion of France, before this weapon came out !)

This disassembly is wrong. You must remove the stock before you remove the lower barrel wood section or you can split it.

Thanks for the input. In the INSTRUCTIONS FOR ARMOURERS, from The War Office, dated 30th September 1931, it states to remove the fore-end prior to the stock butt. Additionally, it highlights, "Attention is drawn to the importance of removing the fore-end before attempting to unscrew the stock bolt."
