What level would you start on for a 6th grader with dyslexia I wouldn’t want it to be too hard to start or he would just give up but I don’t wanna drop $100 on somthing too easy

So I actually stopped at this level because it wasn't working for my oldest son who I strongly suspect has dysgraphia. It was working just fine for my other kids, but I don't think it is the best option for kids with things like dyslexia. All About Spelling is one that is often recommended for kids with dyslexia, as is Sequential Spelling. I am actually going back to Sequential Spelling this coming year because I thought it was very effective. I will have a video coming out soon about Sequential Spelling so you can see if it is something you would be interested in trying!

@empressamilaj7812 It doesn't have too nor did I say it would. I was just explaining the system. The beauty of homeschooling is we get to pick what works for our individual children and IEW is no different. My oldest liked the videos my youngest doesn't so I just explain it to her and she does the work. My niece doesn't do well with IEW at all so she has a different writing program. So many great ones to from :)

Thank you so much! I'm so glad it was helpful for you! Their website says that it is a complete grammar and a complete writing program as well, so you don't have to get anything else. However, they don't teach sentence diagramming in their grammar portion, so if that is something you want to teach you might enjoy reading their article about why they don't teach it. essentialsinwriting.com/do-i-need-to-teach-sentence-diagramming/

My 3rd grader is currently using the IEW People and Places. I don't see how a typical 1st grader would truly glean anything from IEW. In my opinion, the concept it's trying to teach is just too advanced. First and even second graders should still be learning and reinforcing the basics of reading and writing words phonetically, basic sentence structure, and building fine motor control through a penmanship program. In my opinion, most kids don't even need any type of formal instruction on authorship until at earliest 3rd grade. My 3rd grader is a reluctant writer and getting a lot out of it now. I can't imagine how burned out and resistant to writing she would be now if I'd tried to have her do IEW even in 2nd grade, let alone 1st. I will honestly say, as much as I appreciate IEW, that seems crazy to me.
@Thebergnest

IEW has something called PAL that is specifically for kindergarten through 2nd grade aged children. Perhaps that's why it seems IEW assumes your children already know what a paragraph is? Great video! I appreciate seeing the difference. Thank you for sharing :) EIW interests me, however I currently have a sweet spot for IEW because my middle schooler is using their Structure and Style level B year 1. It is a bit expensive, but I love that Andrew Pudewa is teaching it to him and he has a GREAT sense of humor that kids really seem to enjoy :) Thanks again for sharing!
