This is actually incredibly interesting. I live in BC, Canada and have been hiking and finding lots of old gold mine camps from the late 1800's during the gold rush. It's just large mounds of rocks and boulders. These sites are usually on inside corners of streams, where gold is known to accumulate. While looking at these sites, I've tried to visualize exactly what their process was, like where were they digging, relative to where the boulders were piled. Where did they start and which direction were they digging? I would like to try prospecting on these old sites so it would be good to know so I could determine what material hasn't yet been worked, or where they knew the valuable material was. Your boulder piles look very similar, and your tools are probably similar to what they used, so I'm thinking maybe this excavating is similar to the sites I'm seeing here. Thanks for the vid!
