It does take some practice to get down, so don't worry if you have to start slow. First is the order of button presses. I don't know what controller you're using so I'll describe using playstation buttons (what I use). To be able to run and gun at all you first have to ready a gun with square and then press and hold X. I'm sure you already got this far. From this point, even if you completely let go of square so long as you keep X pressed you can run and re-ready or fire your weapon by pressing/tapping square. I use the underside of the joint of my thumb to keep X down while tapping the tip of my thumb to shoot. You may need to change how you hold your controller to find a good angle for this, so I suggest having a firm grip with your left hand (in charge of movement) while keeping your right hand loose, with your thumb tip on Square, the underside of the joint on X, and your index finger curled over R1 so you can do quick reloads. From there, just practice making your movements faster and faster, making sure to keep X held down for the entirety of the level. Another important factor of running and gunning is learning how to use the games auto-aim. This is harder to explain outside of learning the feel of it but you can see at some points how it 'snaps' to whoever the physically closest enemy is IF I'm not moving when I raise my weapon, where as if you are moving it'll raise in the direction you're facing (most of the time, at least). So then the technique is getting the hang of quick stop and starts so you can use the autoaim to aim quickly for you before you begin moving again. Sneaking 2 and Sneaking 4 are the best two for training this on in my opinion. Two final bits that'll help hopefully: 1 is that so long as your SOCOM is past a corner you can shoot incoming guards (best seen at the start of Sneaking 3) and 2 is that when doing these stages keep your eyes completely on the radar in the top right. It can see further than you and help you get a firm idea of your space in the world. Whenever I play MGS1 I rarely see anything outside of the radar box haha EDIT: OH, and use the D-Pad not the analogue!!! If you have any more questions, let me know! I'll do my best to help

Thank you! yeah, its a really tough fight, you really have to know how to manoeuvrer yourself and know the length of your punch/kick hitboxes. and on top of that, on extreme you'll only ever have 2:30 to do it all in, so you can't play defensively.

@@aschlamishowsup Thats more to do with how crappy my aim with the mosin was haha Not sure if I've just been spoiled by modern controllers, but going back to the DS3 had me wiffing so much shots. So I mostly stuck to CQC or MK22 for the whole run. But yeah, your way is more efficient for sure
