Neither hope, nor internet flapdoodle can change the laws of physics. Not trying to rain on anyones parade (or pee in their punch bowl) ... I just don't want people freezing to death thinking a few candles will keep their home warm in the winter. You can warm your hands over a candle, but heating a room is entirely different. Here are the standard heat loss calculations, based on room size, temperature and insulation:: the heat needed to keep the inside temperature where you want is:: H = (SA * dT) / R the heat you need in btu per hour.. Where: SA = surface area exposed to the outside (in square feet) dT = inside temperature - outside temperature (in °F) R = R value of insulation an example: for a room 16' long, 10' wide, 8' high, SA = 576 = 2*H*(W+L) + (W*L) for 65°F inside and 20°F outside, dT = 45 = 65-20 for 2" styrofoam R = 6 So (SA * dT) / R = 576 * 45 / 6 = 4320 btus per hour or 103,680 btus per day How do you make that many btu's ?? How about burning some of those Coghlan's 3 wick Survival candles ? You would need to burn 10½ of these day at a cost of $109.20 -- NOT a solution. See the details below. if you have electricity, a 1500W electric heater will do the trick. it will run about 20 hours full blast. At the national average of $0.17 per kWh, this will cost you $5.17 a day. In the state of Massachusetts this will cost $9.02 per day. dry hardwood (like oak) produces around 9,000 btu per pound. So you would need to burn about 11½ pounds of wood a day. That's 3 pieces 4" diameter and 12" long. If you're lucky this is free. Worst case: buying a ¾ cubic foot (33 pound) bundle at a supermarket for $8 which will last you about 3 days (11 pounds per day). That's (at most) $2.67 a day. In western Massachusetts, you can get a 'cord' (128 cubic feet) of dry hardwood (like oak) delivered for around $200. That brings your daily cost to under 41 cents. kerosene or other quality lamp oil produce about 130,000 btu per gallon. So you would need enough lamps to burn (103,860 / 135,000) = .769 (about ¾) gallons of kerosene per day. Kerosene costs about $5 per gallon at the pump, that's $3.85 a day. Today in western Massachusetts, a 5 gallon can of kerosene at Tractor Supply costs $60, that's $12 per gallon for $9.23 a day. vegetable oil has about the same btu value as kerosene -- the cheapest I found today, was at Walmart -- $9.12 per gallon. That's $7.01 a day. candles from paraffin or other similar waxes produce 19,900 btu per pound. So you would need enough candles to burn (103,680 / 19,900) = 5.21 pounds of paraffin a day. A 50 pound block costs about $90. That's $9.38 a day. Don't want the hassle of making your own candles from a 50 pound block ? Coghlan's 3 wick Survival Candles ... with all 3 wicks lit, burn 12 hours and weigh ½ pound. You would need to burn 10½ a day (10½ * ½ = 5.25 pounds). Today on Amazon they are on sale for $10.40 each, for a daily cost of $109.20. More than a night at Motel 6 ... All of these require you leave a window cracked to let some oxygen in. Otherwise you and any flames die.

Sorry, marks on the Thread line won’t match with actual altitude just because of the angle in relation to the ground…Try a GPS next time.

Cool but…. Keep in mind it also can end up in the engine of an airplane or in the blades of a helicopter at those altitudes. Always ask permission / inform the civil (aviation) authorities first, to make sure it’s safe to do so.

Half of the things said in this video are not true at all, for example you can't get addicted to tobacco after smoking one cigarette. The cotton filling in the tube is not anywhere near to human lungs, so this test doesn't say much about effects on your health. But anyway, it's interesting idea to try to catch as much pollutants in the cotton as possible, I would say that this experiment shows rather the filtering capabilities of cotton.

When i was a kid, I built a huge hexagonal kite made of bamboo and fabric. The kite was about 1.5 m in nominal diameter, and the tail was like 3 m. I had a huge spool of similar material as the one shown in this video. I wanted to take my kite as high as i cool. I started the process, but at some point, the kite was very far, but it stopped climbing . I gave it even more line. At the highest, i could hardly see it. It was getting late and it was time to go home. Huge problem!!! I can not bring the kite back. The force was wayyy to strong. I tried for about an hour, and i made very little progress. In the end, i had to cut the line. Later, i heard that the local airport in my small town reported unsafe landing conditions due to a huge kite. I almost got in trouble. I was 12 or 14 years old. You thought a small kite would lift 1km of string and a camera. You thought that a small spool would handle 1km of string. You thought the big kite wouldn't lift your entire station. You thought the camera mount was going to produce "stable shots". You thought that wooden dulls and glue would be enough to hold it all in place. You thought that small magnetic mount would hold the other camera during flight. I questioned your reasoning. But in the end, you did it. Congratulations.

I let a kite all the way out then tied the handle to a fishing line and let that all the way out too. It took forever to pull it back in. Not sure how far it was, but I could barely see it.
