Please realize that successful treatments have already been done for Parkinson’s Disease in the Ukraine before 2009, with human trials done even earlier. I am glad this is finally being done else where, but this report of it being the first the first human trial isn’t true. Also, they don’t mentioned what kind of stem cells they are using, while Ukraine is the only place regulated and legal in the world for Fetal Stem Cells, FSCs

How are the stem cells collected and who is the donor? Umbilical cord?

The cells originally came from human embryos. In this study, researchers manipulated these cells in the lab to develop into early-stage nerve cells capable of producing dopamine.

Thank you, only it is not clear whether stem cells is a treatment or a cure. If they are in condition to reproduce and form new neurons we could really be safe, if we need periodical transplant of stem cells it could be a better treatment but not without risks. The immunosuppressants are dangerous should one get a contagious illness...

It is a treatment and not a cure. So far, there is no cure for Parkinson's. There have been for years different treatments and clinical trials where some people with Parkinson's would see improvements in their symptoms. However, stem cells are a huge step and one of the recent breakthroughs in Parkinson's research.

Apollippo protein findings in brain?
@lamascience
@lamascience 6 ай бұрын
Yes! Apolipoproteins are a family of proteins that bind lipids (such as cholesterol) to form lipoproteins, which transport fats through the bloodstream. In the context of the brain, apolipoproteins play various roles in lipid metabolism, neuronal function, and the maintenance of the blood-brain barrier. It is produced by various cell types, including neurons and astrocytes.
