Thanks be to KZfaq for bringing this up as a recommendation in 2021! An excellent performance from the Royal Artillery Band including some of my fav marches from 'Bond of Friendship' to 'Voice of the Guns'. Great selection of styles of music. Such a shame that great bands like this can now only be appreciated on KZfaq.

why make state band made appearance in a tattoo event? it appears as if SAF band encourages tattoo
@WhatWouldYouHaveYourArbiterDo5 жыл бұрын
I know I'm nine months late but I think I understand your confusion. This event has nothing to do with tattoos in the sense of markings on the skin, which is what I assume you disagree with the state endorsing. A tattoo in this context is the British English usage: "an entertainment consisting of music, marching, and the performance of displays and exercises by military personnel." This footage is taken from the Sweden International Tattoo, an event at which many other military bands and display teams from across the world also performed. Famous examples of tattoos include the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland. To go into more detail, if you were interested enough which I doubt, according to Wikipedia: "The term '"tattoo" derives from a 17th-century Dutch phrase doe den tap toe ("turn off the tap") a signal to tavern owners each night, played by a regiment's Corps of Drums, to turn off the taps of their ale kegs so that the soldiers would retire to their billeted lodgings at a reasonable hour.[1] With the establishment of modern barracks and full military bands later in the 18th century, the term "tattoo" was used to describe the last duty call of the day, as well as a ceremonial form of evening entertainment performed by military musicians." This is separate from the origin of the more common word "tattoo", which is actually an anglicised version of the Samoan word "tatau".

I agree with waterloo3, but it has got worse in a year, Army Air Corps Band has ceased to exist as a conventional Military Band, and The Kings Division, Signals Band and The Prince of Wales Division Band have all lost their Wind Band options, it is a crime to Military Music, and CAMus should be ashamed. As for this Bands Performance it is excellent.

You can see a few more American-styled movements (drill and rifle work) in their routine, but nothing that takes away from HMKG's superb style. This year's routine has a WONDERFUL ripple line of sound and movement. What a thrill to watch!
@andreaseriksson88032 жыл бұрын
You know that the modern army with it's practicing and drills is invented in Sweden, do you? The Karoliner under Gustavus Adolphus stood for the biggest shift in modern warfare since the Roman times. Furthermore they invented the battle ship also.

Nice to see the RA band before it gets reduced in size with new CAMus restructuring of bands. The band will be reduced down to 35 pieces. Sad for one of the oldest bands in the British army to suffer this fate. They will also lose their orchestra that the band was always famed for doubling on various Royal Occasions. Such is the slow death of British martial music these days.
@colinchambers7694 жыл бұрын
Since my last comment five years ago, it has got worse, this Band has now gone completely and the only Royal Artillery Military Band is the Reserve Band of the Lancashire Gunners based in Bolton. Shame on CAMUS, for being a wrecking crew and destroying British Military Bands Music Heritage.

Sadly now a brass band along with the Royal Engineers and only 25 strong ,once the best and largest band with a capability of a full symphony orchestra now only in memory , I had 22 glorious years in the Royal Artillery Bands
