It's on the 12 Gold Bars album (available on Spotify). The song is a country standard, recorded by various artists since 1952. There is also an "answer song" from the woman's point of view, called "It wasn't God who made honkytonk angels" which uses the same melody.

One of the original verses to this song was “he played his guitar just like a bat out of hell” it was 1958 and the record execs shit their pants when they heard that verse. Before they would release the record, they made him change it to “he played his guitar just like ringin’ a bell.” My how times have changed, just listen to any Rap song today. I wonder what those record execs would say to that?
