Nice. Rutledge Hill was the top spot I wanted to watch 2816, not just to see it but to hear it climb the grade.

Great to see a caboose still used commercially. Many years ago, my dad and I had a collection of model train cabooses, Lionel, American Flyer( my favorite), HO and N gauge. Always had a fondness for them.

Actually, this locomotive was originally constructed for the Rock Island as 1266 in December of 1952 and entered service in January of 1953. In the early 1970s, the Rock Island started overhauling and rebuilding them into GP7 and GP9Rs with 1266 becoming 4506 in December of 1972. It was retired when the railroad folded and went to the Chicago & Northwestern in 1984 becoming 4160. It was retired again in 1995 and sold to the Illinois Railway Museum in 2008. However, after many years of wearing CNW paint, it was beginning to peel and was repainted into its 1972 condition. It's a patched unit from an event that happened like a month ago.

Great video and narration in that wide open space. I took the train in 2013 and the ride was beautiful. While going through the mountains, the engine started slipping and then stopped. It turned out to be caterpillars on the track that kept the train from moving. Help was finally sent out to get sand and we started rolling again after about four hours. The aspens leaves were bare because the caterpillars ate them. When we arrived in Antonito, buses were waiting to take us back to Chama.
