how arc is formed? please explain in details
@mechvidya8881Ай бұрын
Actually the high voltage creates an intense electric field between the small gap. This excites the free electrons present in the air gap and these free electrons start moving at tremendous speed and starts to hit the gas atoms. As a result more electrons are knocked off from the atoms. Thus a Plasma channel is formed which is highly conductive. And the resistance of plasma to the flow of electric current causes the heat of arc.

Why R and R' are drawn? It should be based on R only.
@mechvidya88812 ай бұрын
R represents the resultant of all the forces from the tool to the chip, while R' accounts for all the forces from the work piece to the chip. We cannot neglect R' since we cannot neglect the forces from the workpiece to the chip. Did I clear your doubt?

Excellent explanation, thank you. However you do not mention ventilation holes. In your diagram the metal fills the mould cavity from below which would pressurise the air above. Is it assumed that this air will vent through the packed sand? Sorry if this obvious to everyone else but I’m a real beginner here!
@mechvidya88814 ай бұрын
You are right! Vent holes are usually provided to allow the hot gases to flow out easily. Though some portion of the gases flow out through the sand particles, but additional vent holes are also required. Infact improper ventilation causes many defects in the casting

How to avoid blowholes in aluminium casting
@mechvidya88816 ай бұрын
There are multiple reasons behind formation of blowholes...most prominent factors are improper ventilation and faulty gating system. So check if these two parameters are okay. Also any source of gas entrapment can cause blowholes.

Would this work for bismuth? I make bismuth casting art and would like to know if I can recrystallize it by putting it in boiling water.
@mechvidya88817 ай бұрын
I think Bismuth melts at about 275 deg C. So if you melt it and allow the metal to cool new crystals will definitely form
@ThePeterDislikeShow7 ай бұрын
@@mechvidya8881 I meant strengthening it without melting. By heating it to 100 C in boiling water. I cast things out of bismuth.

Is diffusion welding is possible for welding same type of metals?or is this a forge welding?
@mechvidya88818 ай бұрын
Dissimilar metals can also be welded by this process. In diffusion welding uniform pressure is imparted instead of hammering
