Hori thinks he’s slick with Green Tea being shipped on page 2. For context: Izuocha’s ship name in Japanese is “green tea” because of the kanji in their names and it’s being “shipped”💀.

I'd also recommend Steins;Gate, Vinland Saga, D.Gray-man, and Clannad, + After story for fellow Christians. (D.Gray-man is an older shounen that is packed with Christian symbolism but is usually slept on for some reason.) Can't forget One Piece. There's a lot of symbolism and Christian themes in that as well. One Piece is my top recommendation.

@@nicwithnok you should really give it a try. I think you'd like it. If you like Deku's character development, I'm sure you'd like Subaru. It's much deeper than it originally looks. It's all about learning to love yourself and realizing that those you love actually care about you just as much, and has a premise very similar to Deku's dark hero arc. I don't want to spoil anything, but you aren't supposed to like Subaru at first, and that's because he hates himself with all of his being. If fantasy isn't your thing, I get that. But if you have some free time, I recommend watching it again or watching further if you never finished it. MHA and FMAB were my favorites before I stumbled across Re:Zero. It's that good imo. I like to think that the Lord has blessed me with pretty good discernment but who knows. (It can be very dark at times but has unbelievably beautiful themes that reflect biblical teachings. With every dark moment of the show, there's an even more beautiful moment. That's why I say it's a controversial pick.) But, based on what you like, I think you'd end up really enjoying it. Sorry for the paragraph. I'm just very passionate about this story. Thanks for taking the time to read this lol PS: make it to episode 18 before dropping it for good

Woah, I just stumbled on this channel. The discussion is right up my alley and it’s so refreshing. You clearly are pretty educated in general and the way you explained certain topics to the chat really made me happy. MHA at it’s core is a pretty wierd shonen, as it features pretty in-depth themes and doesn’t over-explain them, as well as a ton of references that the average 15 year old will not get, so it is really refreshing to someone really picking up on it. Almost every anime has fan service, if it bothers you that much don’t watch it. There plenty of other things to take away from it like ANY of the other things I mentioned in the video I’d also love for you to explain how it’s based on evolution?? Yes quirks evolve as they go through the generations, but the story itself isn’t centered around evolution. It’s the same as how humans have changed over time

@@nicwithnok ive seen almost every anime you mentioned in this list, i think there is a big difference from ignoring these major issues and encouraging them to watch as christians lol people can enjoy these shows as individuals but saying these are shows for christians to watch is a bad take. Based on your logic stretches they should watch naruto before any of these. FMAB is one of my fav anime of all time ive seen it 6-7 times. But I am fully aware of its faults. also the most prevalent theory in MHA is quirks came from evolution. and the SPY X family incest trope is alive and well no matter how you defend it. I am not saying any of these shows are bad, in fact the oppsosite. To reiterate I have a problem with using them as examples for christians to watch as if they are better than others for christians to watch.

To be completely frank I don't fully agree with the video nor can I say that I really agree with your worldview overall. I don't mean any offense by saying that. I mean this with all due respect and I hope that my opinions will be taken in good faith here out, but I do think it's important for me to get out of the way where I stand as far as this video goes. Now, having said that what I think the real problem is when it comes to western media is specifically the creator economy. A lot of the big studios want to focus on franchise crap, Disney, Warner-Discovery, Paramount, all those guys. However people who have their own visions aren't really nourished and allowed to grow like how people in the east and specifically Japan are. There are some REAL talented people out there who want to tell good stories, who want to create imaginative worlds with rich narratives and complex fun characters. The problem is those people do not have the same avenue to tell those stories the same way people in the Eastern hemisphere do. It's no secret that most anime come from Manga, and for the majority of the big manga those are lead by, typically, a very small group with a creative vision oftentimes that being even only one person. SpyxFamily, Dragonball, Kageya-sama, One Piece, Naruto, Demon Slayer all come from Shonen Jump, FMA comes from some Square Enix magazine I thiink, whatever your favorite is it is likely it started from one of these magazines. The jp magazine is rife with its own issues don't get me wrong, but the editorial letting these talents be nurtured, letting these creatives share their vision and finding the right people is the reason why I think anime works so well. But it goes deeper than that. Where do a lot of your fave mangaka get their start? A large amount of them get started by going to manga schools and getting an education and being under the tutelage of another genius in their field, which is similar to how a lot of animators in the west get their start BUT the more important avenue, I think, is in the doujinshi scene. A lot of people don't seem to realize just how many mangaka got their start making doujinshi comics, which are just fan comics which usually but not always are known for taking intellectual properties and doing, you know fan stuff, adding lots of sex and crap that wasn't in the original. Not all doujinshi are like that, but that's just what a lot of them are that's the motivation a person might have to make a doujinshi. The reason why I want to bring this up is that the main reason why Japan has a doujinshi scene there where we in the west don't really have that is because of how strict the US copyright system is with protected works. Yes there are fan conventions here in the west too, which as far as I'm aware can be pretty similar, but the two most mitigating factors is that 1) in the west it is SUPER SUPER expensive to get a table in a convention to promote your stuff, and 2) It is harder to sell your stuff if you are making fan content. Since Japan, and particularly Japanese publishers, are far less strict about the whole doujinshii fan scene, fans can actually sell their stuff at those fan conventions, which lets them afford to nurture their talent so that they can eventually try and get an original work published in a major magazine, which will eventually be turned into your new favorite anime. That's just something that really does not exist in the same way in the west, yes there are talented people who get jobs from fan projects here too, but it is more difficult because it is harder to afford going all in in making something that is like a fan comic and studios might not be so favorable to people who make them. ALLLL of this to say that I think that the main problem with western works isn't the politics, it is how creatives are treated here. I think that politics in a work can be fine and do well. To put all my cards on the table I am a pretty left leaning person, but there are plenty of shows movies anime that are distinctly right leaning that I enjoy! Obviously a creative's outlook on life and their politics is going to heavily influence what they create and I think that saying "well you can't include political themes because it will make the work weaker/it will alienate some audiences" is another thing that will just stifle creatives. Some of the best works of fiction ever made, some of the stuff that's hundreds of years old but we still talk about today are remembered specifically for their politics. BUT I do think that if politics in a work are going to be included they need to be done RIGHT. It needs to be centered around a story's essential theme, it needs to build up the characters and enrichen the world. You can create a good story with rich political themes, I just think it can't JUST be those themes. That's how you get stuff like Author Tract or Writer on Board, tropes that nobody really likes. A lot of our products are not creator lead, they are studio lead, so these soulless corporatiions can't really understand that politics in a story =/= a story. This is something that's true for left wing and right wing media. I'd even go so far as to say that even if a lot of this stuff was politically neutral it'd still be bad. Mr. Birchum isn't bad because it is right wing, it's bad because it's insipid, unoriginal, and uncreative. I honestly don't know how much hope there is for the future, as far as western media goes. On the one hand there are shows like Invincible and the Boys, two programs that, while I don't really love them I like street-level heroes more, a lot of people do seem to like them and they are both projects that came from comics that were made by a small creative team. On the other hand it looks like the big studios only want to develop stuff that are already huge ips and everything is about franchise franchise franchise. No studio wants to take a risk recently it seems. There is the internet which is where a lot of creatives are able to share their stuff, but it is REALLY hard to earn money off of something you've made on the internet. Maybe if creatives are given a better avenue to grow then we'll see better projects. I'm not really into the Marvel stuff or whatever there is on Disney. I think that modern Star Wars is ok but a little boring, but what I really think you should look at is horror content. Even if you don't think that you'll like it because you are a christian, I think that, currently, western horror has a LOT of good content with a lot of good variety. If you want a genre that is filled with excellent media that mostly doesn't focus on the politics look to horror movies, there are some great ones coming out. I really liked Smile, which is getting a sequel soon, as well as the recently released Abigail. OH YEAH ALSO that part when you said that shows have to put in LGBT themes or else they run the risk of being cancelled? That was complete garbage it's actually the EXACT OPPOSITE particularly when it comes to western cartoons shows like Steven Universe, the Owl House etc. they actually ran the risk of getting cancelled BECAUSE of those lgbt themes. Steven Universe in particular had to do a LOT of censor dodging and it was shortened because stuff like the gay wedding made it difficult for them to air in other countries. Some of the creators at Disney such as Alex Hirsch the creator of Gravity Falls talked about how even though Disney is happy to put rainbows in some of their advertising the creators had to censor and remove so much lgbtq+ content because behind closed doors disney didn't want to lose precious pennies over a small kiss or hand holding. Stuff like two people of the same gender dancing or holding hands or chaste little kisses get HEAVILY censored in other regions too. Disney is only pro-lgbt as a branding if they think they can sell pins during pride month. They absolutely UNEQUIVOCALLY are not cancelling shows just because someone didn't put a gay character in. They actually would rather try and hide as much gay stuff as possible. And you also mentioned how it's not fair how Disney is race swapping Ariel and how they should just make their own original black characters, but look at how movies like Wish did. Seems like a major piece is missing when the movie that came out last year that starred a black princess doesn't even get a mention in the video.

Great video Nic. I've been really enjoying your content as a fellow brother in Christ who watches anime. Keep up the great work! A dear college friend of mine (and fellow brother in Christ) would have loved your recommendation of Fullmetal Alchemist. He was an honest to goodness encyclopedia of the show. He knew everything about it and was always in the mood to talk about its captivating story and Edward Elric's character development (among other things). We had articulate conversations about everything - theology, sports, gaming, and of course - anime. He wanted to know every detail of my first watch of FMA in 2022 and it was a great ride. I'll always try to make time to rewatch it in honor of him. He unfortunately passed away n March 2023, a week after my wife and I started My Hero Academia. I was looking forward to sharing with him every detail of watching that too, but sadly it wasn't meant to be. I dearly miss him and our talks everyday, but I continue to watch anime in honor of him. With all that said, MHA is also my favorite of all time so I'm right with you there! I adore its themes, world, and its characters are some of the favorites I've had in a long time (Ochako, Izuku, and Shoto namely). I just got to the Entertainment District Arc in Demon Slayer. It's been a solid show too! My wife and I also watch Spy x Family together. It's been pretty slow there, but we're halfway through season two and saw Code White when it hit theaters.

Just started Frieren. Feels very slow burn, but I'll keep at it. So far, I haven't read ahead in the manga, but season 2 of Vinland Saga is probably the most heavily Christian themed anime I've seen yet. My interest peaked when I found out it was based on actual historical viking figures who possibly discovered America in pursuit of a "promised land" (Vinland). The themes of S2 are very strong in how nonviolence and compassion, even when everyone chooses the opposite, is a virtuous path and can change people's hearts. Also, a good reflection on how past sins can weigh heavy on your own heart. The evolution of Thorfinn is prob one of my favorites in anime. I'll have to read ahead, i hear this manga is one of the best. Great recommendations btw!

Interesting I do think everyone regardless of what you believe in or where you stand in beliefs, should enjoy their hobbies however I will say I don’t too much understand why Anime would be used to bring forth religion when it’s a worldly made thing now I get that sometimes Anime may use religious things but that’s mostly a plot device or because it sounded interesting to the writers and not accurate a lot of the time to the real life beliefs, like Demons or Devils being misunderstood or not evil things like that, I do feel that every Anime has some form of Fanservice in one way or the other whether by character design, being subtle or just outright being honest about it the only ones I’ve seen that don’t have an once of it would be the really serious dark ones or the ones that are completely wholesome I don’t feel like you should feel like walking on egg shells because you seen a cartoon character in a bikini but I do get that it is for some their beliefs so I’m not going into what people should do you do what you feel is right for you and how you follow your religion. My point being is that Anime is like any other form of media or entertainment it’s a corporate ran thing made to make money IMO it’s no better than it’s no better than things over in the West only difference is Japan sticks to their cultural norms at least for now I hear something was going on with some company from the West DEI buying something like a Manga company or whatever it was anyway yeah if you do feel that as a Christian watching this certain thing is bad for me despite it maybe even having a decent story that’s definitely and 100% fine I’m not saying anyone is wrong in thinking that way that’s between you and your religion but I do feel if your not attracted to cartoon characters or you feel the urge to go be violent and angry after watching something dark IMO I think you’ll be fine I mean I play GTA a video game series That goes against Christianity but I don’t feel after playing it I want to be this criminal causing havoc on my fellow man ya know. But this is all my opinion I’m Not here to argue or say your forcing anything and I’m certainly not trying to force anything on anyone or say Anime is evil or people who enjoy certain shows or video games are evil it’s just how I think and how I see the situation as Anime is like anything else where it has a lot of shows and genre’s that don’t really go into religions or anything like that and the ones that do usually do it in a fictional way not accurate although there are some that are 100% accurate when they do delve into Angles and Demons and things like that but mostly Anime 90% of the time is worldly stuff like ultra violence, sexy stuff, killing and things of the sort not all of Anime is this I just want to make that clear I don’t think like that but just that there’s a lot more of shows like that than a religious thing ya know and that’s understandable because Anime is a worldly man made thing but that was my entire point of everything.

The Bible also mentions mostly worldly issues. You’re forgetting the source material for which this video relies upon. The themes, messaging & fighting are extremely similar to those in the Bible, & God himself told armies to attack others. Violence has been used to demolish evil through God in the Bible. Don’t forget David beheaded Goliath & was only able to kill him through the will of God since he was a small boy going against a 10 foot battle worn giant.

@@braydenleaderofthetirkins1143 Then if that’s the case I feel that could apply to other things as well that have the same themes of good vs evil not just specifically Anime, but yeah I was making a point of how a lot of Anime are like a lot of other things, like I said I do get there are themes and such that could be looked at in that lens but what I was talking about was violent for the sake of being violent stuff like that which I know your not talking about those kinds of Anime because Anime has different categories or genres whatever have you it’s not so much of a one specific thing it’s many things and comes in different styles like you could have one that’s cutesy, nonsensical, cartoony, stupid and dumb and makes no sense whatsoever and then you could have another that’s touched on those themes you were talking about, so that was my thing are we talking about specific ones that do but even the ones that do I was mentioning don’t always have the most accurate truth or try to do the whole justification of evil bull crap all the time but I digress.
