I all of time hear an old phrase: "TIMES CHANGE", and "THINGS CHANGE". Well, here's an example of proof in my lifetime, In the video: "CP/KC Transfer" "Sauget, Il," The first "KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN" Was "RED and WHITE", That's the exact paint scheme of what they looked like back in the old days when I was 12 (1979) when they would come rumbling through "GRANNIS ARK." Sometimes, they would stop there to DROP OFF/PICK UP GONDOLAS (Feed Cars) for the CHICKEN PROCESSING PLANT they have there. That was also in the days of very frequently. There would also be another Locomotive assisting it from another RAILROAD "BURLINGTON NORTHERN" (Before they merged with SANTA FE). I knew nearly every one of those people who worked for them then Because I was the scrawny 12 year old then would be selling a NEWSPAPER we use to have called "GRIT NEWSPAPERS" (and no, not the oatmeal type either) who knew the schedules and would be waiting (at a safe distance, of course) And would sell one to each and every one of those people (who were very nice then) who worked that train then. But with time, more changes have happened since then: The PLANT (Then 1979) was "LANE POULTRY PROCESSING" and had a track for the train to drop off/pick up FEED CARS, "TODAY" That POULTRY PLANT belongs to "TYSON", The side rail where the feed cars were dropped off/picked up have all been ripped out since then. 🤔 Hmm, I wonder if "BURLINGTON NORTHERN (After the merge with SANTA FE)" still goes through there assisting "KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN" Today; Probably NOT. AH, THE GOOD OLE DAYS.

I swear, every time I see trains rolling on a nice, scenic layout with shiny wheels on all the cars, it makes me cringe! Even worse when the cars are weathered……and they still have shiny wheels! Good grief. 🙄

Bro... that's just how it is sometimes.. Not everyone weathers their trains, or even knows how. Plus, the public typically run trains here too. Mostly kids. You think kids know how to do that? Probably not. It is still a hell of a layout either way and the trains are still cool.

I rode in that dome car a couple of years ago...When it first leaves the station and crosses the highway the tracks are a bit uneven and in the dome you start rocking back and forth quite a bit...enough I had to hold onto the table, LOL! Man, that RS1's paint job sure faded out quick!

What I’ve noticed about the whole Empress tour is that only the real enthusiast are showing up and we’re not getting huge crowds like we see with big boy and another locomotives. We’ve had so many great moments because it’s just a happy little band of enthusiasts showing up and having a great time. I was fortunate enough to catch the locomotive up close and personal in Knoche Yard in Kansas City and was able to talk one on one with the crew and was given yard access. Very rare today.

Nothing drives me up a wall more than seeing unrealistically high speeds and/or abrupt starts and stops. This layouts operators fail on both counts.

Chill out. They allow the public to operate trains there. So there will be some "unrealistically high speeds"... not everyone knows how to run model trains "correctly".. Sorry it couldn't be perfect for you. It is still a hell of a layout either way.
