Rubbish work,strip out in a pyramid so you only got one slate strapped,also get rid of that toffee hammer you will brake slates,also don’t nail the lead both sides only one side or it will rip eventually! It can’t move,it’s good practice to number slates when stripping👊

It’s a pity that a good roofer is so hard to come by. I’ve been let down a couple of times for a re-roof. No explanation, just dropped it despite me accepting the estimate in full and offering time and materials for the unknowns. Luckily it’s not as bad as the roof in this video, though I suspect this one was better before they started.

I would have bent it into a u- shape out of situ to get it into the gutter 90% without thining it by bossing it to death . and then bend it over the front.

Nicely done. I might go with a bit of a longer nail when reinstalling the slates, as it didn’t seem to have much depth on the wood there. But great technical skills fella. Nice to see someone actually take the time to remove the tiles and properly fit the valley rather than try to shiny some junk in from the exposed portion.

It’s a good job tho we have firms like this finding cowboy work I was on a re roof last week No shit it was 38 courses straight bond lats not even staggered 1 in 3 I’ve never seen anything like it no over hang on the gables they went flush to the brick work 😂 butchered the verges underneath so they could get them on It takes more time in the end bodging rather then doing it correct the first time lol just set the roof out and mark out before just tiling and hoping ffs 🤦‍♂️ Same with gauging up I see guys just go up at 13.2 then measure to the ridge tree after hitting half way That’s why we see what we do in this video a 2” overlap on the tile seeing the nail holes It’s ridiculous I’ll tell you the problem We train a labourer up who after a year thinks hold on I’m doing same work as roofer here but less pay They think they are a roofer after a year or 3 😂 so leave get a lad and take on work We have lads who claim to be roofers … who are NOT!! All the gear - No idea

You wanna check the pitch too, double Romans’ 17.5 degrees or 22.5 granulated I think. Might only be able to put a smooth redland regnant on something that low. (12.5)

We square the roof up in various different ways, we then mark up the roof with a tape and marker then chalk line the felt, the battens then follow the chalk lines, we then strike the roof out so all the perps line through.

@@jwconstruction378 Quite weird, we in Belgium first put felt, then vertical pieces of wood and afterwards the horizontal ones that are used for putting the tiles on. Why only Horizontal pieces of wood?

@@johnskip2694 nothing weird about it, we had another roof to tie into on the left so if we counter batten it we won't run into the old roof, I normally counter batten my roofs.

You never bed ridges on slates. Always do a secret bed under the ridge.
@jwconstruction378
@jwconstruction378 Жыл бұрын
Ey up you just contradicted your self, what happens if the ridges are badly chipped on the sides from previous roofer hacking them off , you cannot just bed them on they look ugly. If the customer cannot afford new ridges then this is the way simple. On new black capped ridges we secret bed them and send a stainless steel screw into a batten. Put some of your work up online for us to see.
