How are you controlling distortion??

The blocks are made of copper. I used do this for living. Very satisfying of way welding. You have to keep going whilst it’s hot and you push the slag out the side. You leave about a 1~2 mm gap at the sides of the copper blocks. Some of the big old crane rails could take up to 3 hours to weld. Probably a dying art now

Hey man. How do you control the distortion on the rails? Whenever we do it, the heat makes the rail sag and bend, we even tried 4mm elevated to compensate for distortion

I have a bunch of used rail track and was curious if I could use it to make roof trusses for a shop? Can it be welded together to accommodate this application?

how do you clean the weld after the copper shoes have been fitted? do you just keep welding over the slag?

Slag floats so as long as you keep the power on and the whole weld molton all the slag will be on the surface.
