Its funny how Disney kept pimping out the stagecraft sh!t like it was going to be so much better than the blue screens in the prequels. Turns out the opposite is the case. The volume just looks so unbearably unconvincing. I can see the lines where the background fills in. Plus the lighting is always so flat in all these disney plus shows except Andor. Why do they suck so hard? Its 2024 and we cant get this sh!t right?

@@WL1264 Thats an example where it's done well. But that's because you have a director that actually cares. I'm sure the director's for these disno plus shows somewhat care too, but it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, the producers rush these directors and the effects artists because they have to sh!t out endless SW content.

The only way I could see Star Wars working now is to do something like what Gundam did and make completely alternate universes that still somewhat share themes and aesthetics from the original while still having room to do something completely divorced from the lore of the original universe

I'm fairly unaware of people hanging on to Rogue One. From my experience many love "The Last Jedi" as the standout of the Disney SW movies. I still don't like that one either though so...

It's the best one in the sequels, even if it's not saying much. I actually think Solo was the best movie out of the Disno wars films.

Adum can be fantastic at unpopular takes, but his mindset that Star Wars was never good because of its fans is objectively terrible film criticism. It's beyond unreasonable to expect any rightsholder to control its fandom, as they are composed of too many people with their own free wills. If Siskel and Ebert gave the original trilogy two thumbs down back in the 80s, simply because they did not like the franchise's fanbase, not only would it seem petty and vindictive, it would not provide the franchise's writers, production crew, or onlookers any information they can learn from. Furthermore, where does the mindset that films can be judged by the actions of their viewers end? Is Taxi Driver an awful movie because it inspired a person to harm a sitting president? Yes, some movies tell bad messages and should be critiqued for them, but the original trilogy is fairly innocent in that regard. It's okay to not like something or its fans, but that does not make it terrible simply because it isn't your cup of tea. It would be better for Adum to stop watching and talking about it altogether if he cannot bring himself to review the films based on their own qualities. If Adum wants to rate all Star Wars media 1/10, that's obviously his decision, but it makes him look far more emotionally persuaded than he wants to appear.

Jesus Christ, Adam is becoming legitimately insufferable. I’ve been watching his content since 2015, and never has he been more annoying and up his own ass than he has been on the Star Wars stuff. I don’t even care about Star Wars, but I think his petty attitude towards whatever group of people that’s gotten under his skin is making him unbearable to listen to , and it’s getting hard to take him seriously as an actual critic. Star Wars nerds, Marvel nerds, DC nerds etc annoy me too, but I can’t imagine shitting my diaper and crying about it the way he has been here in this episode and on his stream. I feel bad for Alex here.

Adum: If Rogue One was it's own movie, 4/10. But because of my hatred for the Star Wars franchise, I'm giving it a 1/10. And if you tell me my rating isn't valid, you're creating an exception for Star Wars. Me: Actually Adum, it seems like you're creating an exception for Star Wars.

Disappointing that Adum is unwilling to even engage in a conversation about Star Wars. He stans the Matrix movies, which are pretty horrible except for the first one, but can't find a single thing to appreciate about any Star Wars movie.

It was certainly weird listening to Alex having a conversation with himself, with the occasional "it's boring.." comment from Adam. I get it. Being tired of Star Wars is common. It must have been real fun to pick a movie for the episode and then having to be the only one keeping up the conversation about it. 😅

Never been surprised by how boring Rogue One was to me considering it was conceptualized by John Knoll who is not a writer but one of the authors of photoshop and a big name vfx supervisor from ILM and then cobbled together by Edwards and Chris Weitz of Antz, the Golden Compass, and Disney’s Pinocchio fame

02:03:54 lol as a dune fan and a star wars hater star wars is definitely not a rip off of Dune. Trust me, Dune didn't invent any of its ideas either they were all tropes at the time, in the same way star wars combines tropes from different places. Star wars is more broadly inspired where as dune is mainly inspired by other sci fi which is why star wars is more successful then Dune. The new Dune movies are made with star wars in mind (they are very different to the book) which is why it seems so similar to star wars

What I don't understand about this comment is that the Rogue One discussion makes up for 40 minutes out of a 2h40m episode. There's an entire episode posted here, even without the rogue one discussion. We talk about more than one thing.

@@YMS totally. There's lots of good discussion in this episode. I should have said film discussion, because the film discussions are what I'm most interested in, even if the TV shows were interesting I just don't find them as interesting as your film discussions. please don't take this as any kind of hate, I truly love your work. The only reason I'm disappointed is because I'm genuinely excited every two weeks to hear you talk about a film in depth, and I don't feel like I got that this particular fortnight.

This seems like a good time to remind everyone exactly what happens when Adum needs to finish a movie that has lost him. As seen when he watches Boss Baby, he will absorb nothing of the movie. It will slide off of him like water on a duck's back. Same thing happened woth Rogue One. After a point, the movie was basically just talking at him. This was the only way this episode was gonna go, and thus is perfect.
