People often mock this video of him in sitting stances... it is meant to represent someone that has fallen from their horse in full samurai armor ffs to keep you alive for just a moment longer. It is based on actual techniques that are probably lost to the test of time, but somehow kept alive in the form that this man presented. Of course it has next to no application in a modern fight, but it is a beautiful "art" that should be kept alive and you can still take some things away from it. Like momentum vs eccentric and concentric motions. The demonstration shows him utilizing his opponents momentum, yes, but also their eccentric and concentric attacks to get them over or away from him. it is meant to keep a blade out of your throat or ribcage. Not keep Connor McGregor from beating your face in at the octogon.

Why focusing on the discorded mind. A samurai does not focus on the global expression or on the opinion of others. He trains for the benifit of his own spiritual and physical development. Further more an Aikidoka should reflect more on the words of the O'sensei wether on the words of fools. Real martial arts is not defined by the opinion of others it is defined by the practicer himself. If you look up for the real definition of Aikido, you will know that the whole is not based on a cage fight or modern day fighting mentality. It is made for the individual development to grow as warrior with love in mind and heart with help of universe to reach you inner self in search of enlightment. You do not ask a buddist shaolin to enter the ring in UFC do you? Respect is in order. Stop comparing traditions and culture with your modern day mindset. If you know the difference between a samurai and a gladiator than you know what i am talking about. A real Aikidoka would never be stupid enough to enter the ring to fight for no reason. Bushido is key to the mind for the real warrior, which seperates the fighters from the warriors. Here is a message from a real Aikidoka: Spread love, it will change the world!!!!

Anyone who doubts Aikido, come to Japan and try to get through the 6 months of Yoshinkan Senshusei. I guarantee half the doubters here would bail out of the program. One has to "feel" Aikido from a top teacher to understand it.

Сколько не смотрю, а понимаю что О Сенсей воспринимал атакующих как сбившиеся с пути поезда, которые он как стрелочник переводил на пути их дальнейшего следования по изначальной траектории❤

"Life is growth. If we stop growing, technically and spiritually, it is as if we were dead. The Art of Peace is a celebration of the union of heaven, earth and humanity. It is all that is truth, goodness and beauty." The Art of Peace. O´Sensei Morihei Ueshiba.

There no Aikido Yoshinkan in Michigan . Maybe one but far away. I wish more Yoshikan /Yoshinkai Aikido were in Mi I studied under Takashi Kushida in 1987 and in 2012 just before his passing . He was a great man , I will never forget him ! Takashi Kushida once was ahead of 50 schools in the USA. His son teaches Yoshokai Aikido in Ann Arbor. I gave Aikido my heart and trained 150% each time I came to the dojo . He got mad at me and charges at me like he was going to attack me . later at closing time I brought it up to him and he threaten to break my knee if I came back to class. It hurt me to the core because I love Aikido and couldn't go back. It took me many many months to get over not having Aikido in my life. I looked for a school to continue training but none were the same . There is to this story , I didn't feel ( wasn't ) wanted even giving my 150% The history of Aikido is love and harmony but this was harmony .

I enjoyed the choreography. This warrior dance must make bullied kids feel powerful. They should try doing this while figure-skating. Not that it will make it more realistic, but it will definitely add to the beauty and elegance.

Except for the corny music, this is an excellent video. Neutral background setting instead of a showy Ikea background, slow motion added, and of course excellent demonstration of shomen uchi and yokomen uchi.

Practitioners of some of these arts have been beaten soundly. Other than stories, any hard evidence that these masters from yesteryear took on & defeated folks in competition or in self defense!

All that bowing to the flag nonsense. Then to the guy's pic on the wall. One day a private in military uniform came to our dojo, must have been an ex-student. The sensei went apeshit, even started smoking, he got so excited. Koganei dojo, long gone.

So……heres what i don’t get. O Sensei trained several martial arts, before inventing Aikido. But, i read a couple of times about his last sensei (Sokako Takeda) who taught Aikijujutsu. According to the Wikipédia, this martial art Was what samurais uses to train and use in combat. I’ve seen videos of this martial art and its just like Aikido, simply a bit more serious. So…….what exactly did Ueshiba invent?!??? And this demonstrations, pleaseeee Nobady atacks like that, and falls so easely

I just wish we would use more realistic attack. I will never strike like that. It’s a false pretenses. I’m really serious about this. Steven Sagal really showed what Aikido is in the streets. And not. In the Dojo. I already had trained in 3 styles by the time I started studying Aikido. I was in my 30s. No one attacks like that. Look I get the big movement are for training. And safety. I get it. But in a real fight. You have no ideal what’s coming. Yes there is basic parry and defensive movement and body position. But. On the street. Shit gets real. And we must be real. In our training. So when it’s real. It’s just training. In any style and art.
