I was visiting Phoenix on the day this happened, we were watching the it happen on live TV, and then had to turn it off when the roof caved in and firefighter's fell through. A few years later, I was in Colorado Springs and stopped by the firefighters memorial and found the Bret Tarver's name. Haven't forgotten his name since. What a tragedy.

I tried to reverse the roles and look at it from the perspective of a private prosecutor but then ended up thinking I'm better off just staying in the civil. There's nothing in it for me to send a criminal to jail. Well, maybe Bush and Cheney.

I lived close enough I could see the firefighters doing their job. I got my haircut next door when I was a kid and shopped at the hardware store as an adult. A couple years after the fire I went to work at Greenwood cemetery and always volunteered to work during the memorial at the Bell Tower.

Firefighter Bret Tarver was a Hero and will always be.

This is horrible to watch 😢. The most loving fire fighter had to leave us and is now in the hands of God. I have very fond memories of my childhood when I used to visit my grandma who lived next to the fire station and I would hang out with him outside of the fire station while he watered the lawn. I honestly loved talking to him. I hope I made at least a little positive impact in his life because he made a huge impact in my life. Sending you lots of hugs wherever you are Bret Tarver 😔

What about basic sounding. No one was constantly reading and sounding the roof and this mistake was avoidable and over confidence played a big role in this near miss.

Of all that was mentioned to help safety not once was a roof ladder talked about. Is that because any fail will make the peak collapse?
