I have a 20-year old 2703 and need to mention that the miter gauge is not upgradeable from third party vendors. Unlike many other portable saws, the miter gauge slot is not the usual 3/4 x 3/8 slot; it is smaller and therefore non-standard. The only upgrade would be adding a board to the included gauge for more support. Or, you could create a miter sliding table that would require removing the saw guard leaving the blade riving knife for kickback protection. (I also use the Rousseau table system for a better fence and expanded table area including the outfeed table.)

Would I be sorry if I got rid of my Craftsman belt drive for this? I could use the space.

You let the blade do the work and never force it down on through. You also hold down your wood or use clamps to hold it. Kickback should never happen on a miter saw unless you’re deliberately not holding down your piece work or a warped board isn’t facing downward but instead it faces upward.

Did you need to make plans/ permits or allowed to just do it without anything like that from the city, planning on making the same pero scared I’ll need to tear it down if I don’t have the right permits since all USA videos talk about permits and regulations, do we have that in the Philippines???
