If she was getting movie offers while she was married to Elvis, why did she have such a hard time getting them after the divorce? She was visibly trying after the divorce(according to the movie magazines) but got nothing until Elvis died, and then she could do Elvis interviews, Elvis specials,, Graceland tours, etc, getting her own face on tv which led to her first tv gig, Those Amazing Animals.
@jmf2471
@jmf2471 8 ай бұрын
I can’t say for certain, but as Elvis said “It was to exploit the Presley name.” After the divorce she was no longer a Presley. And the few offers she got for interviews, she literally had to put in her terms “ no questions about Elvis”. This was brought up in a few newspaper articles especially when she became the “Wella” spokeswoman. Plus you have to have the talent to back up your claims. She is ok but not really talented. It was when she realized people were only interested in Elvis, she started granting interviews & got paid well for them. And then she used the opportunity to talk down about him.

@@jmf2471 Early one after the divorce she was saying she wanted to put Elvis behind her, "that's a part of my life that's over!" She tried to get interviews and things without talking about Elvis, thinking for some self aggrandizing reason that the public was interested in HER. She lived in Never Never Land. She got nowhere in show business until Elvis died and she could use him. The part in the divorce settlement where Elvis says "the movie offers were because of the Presley name" (she CLAIMED she was getting movie offers) proves that Priscilla was already wanting to go into show business when she left Elvis, and they had probably been arguing about it. In my opinion, that is the real reason she left him. To go into show business because right after the divorce she got an agent. All her other excuses for leaving him are bogus if you look at them closely. Jo jo, is there some reason or setting on your site that keeps people from making a link to you? I tried to give several people links to your video but it just won't take. Do you know why?

@@jmf2471 I think it was SHE who wanted "no questions about Elvis" because with her gigantic ego, she thought the public would be interested in her for herself. However, by the time she was doing the Wella commercials, Elvis was dead and she was using his last name.

You neglect to mention that Elvis had made it known that he did not want to marry a woman who wanted to go into show business. Priscilla hid those ambitions from him until they were married, and shortly after they were married, started preparing herself for a show business career, modeling and taking dancing lessons, and I have heard, even acting in local theaters. She married him by fraud, and as soon as she got the best settlement, she left him and got herself an agent.

Thank you for commenting. From what I recall there was a time where Kathy would be at Graceland when Linda was there. If i recall correctly, there is a photo of Elvis, Linda, Billy and a few others, walking in the parking lot of a Cadillac Dealership. Elvis bought around 17 cars. One of those cars were gifted to Kathy so they were friendly to each other. Maybe not best friends but they got along. Anita did not personally write her own book but she was integral in writing it with her daughter. There is an interview on youtube kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obN_i7Kprq_LeHU.htmlsi=r5vDU2N9H836Heo3 with Anita's daughter about writing the book. I have three of those books - not the second May Mann one, but if it is similar to her first one, I won't bother tracking it down. You raise some valid points in this video about Priscilla's behaviour over the years. We'll never know why Elvis chose to marry her over the many more suitable girls he could have had. It's been said he was forced/pressured into marrying her because of the circumstances, ie she had been living with him for so long and it would have looked bad for him if he didn't marry her. Why did he let her stay so long?? He could have sent her back to her parents after the first year or so and be done with her. She was a cruel greedy vindictive witch. Ruined Elvis' personal life. And for anybody who says without Priscilla he wouldn't have had Lisa Marie, if he'd married Anita Wood for instance, as most people expected, he would have been the father of several children that Anita had with another man.

For the Presley men; "What happened in Germany should have stayed in Germany"' would have been beneficial for both. However, we can't re-write history. My theory is, Elvis was not ready to marry at 25 years old. He put his life on hold for 2 years in the Army and after that was behind him, he wanted to pick up were he left off. I feel, that is why his tone changed when he wrote those letters to Anita. His first letters pledged his undying devotion and his later letters were like, well 2 years is a long time to wait for someone so if you found some one else... I think he did not want to drag Anita around another 5 years, she was already 22, which in those days, the clock is ticking to marry. With Priscilla, he had time to wait until she was 21. I think Priscilla was very accommodating to Elvis during the dating years but she wasn't being herself. She put on a façade and then one day was like, things will change when we are married. They did not change and then she realized she was not going to get out of Elvis what she thought she would. Her own fame. She threw Elvis under the bus with her book. She underestimated the Elvis fans. We love Elvis. I am an Elvis fan. (period)

I find most all books about him very vague, and that's sad. We need to know these things. Anything at all about him is so important to me. Did Anita really have a contract with Sun records? Or did she just record that song for Elvis? "I'll wait forever for you." If she did have a contract that's interesting. Thanks for covering so many of these books!

Numerous Elvis fans have reported that Kathy was working on another book. However, Kathy has not been as active on Facebook as in the past, to report a status. In some instances Kathy goes into details and others are generalized. I think it was difficult on describing her relationship because they went from a a working relationship, to a love affair to being good friends and back to a working relationship, which is never an easy thing to maneuver. But they were 2 adults living their life. The thing I found interesting is she too dated Jerry Schilling and I just can’t figure the timeline yet. Just that they dated. According to the newspaper article from 1961 (not 1960 as I may have said in the video) Anita signed a contract with Sun Records a few weeks prior to the news article.Sam Philips said “She’s a fantastic talent,” “We’ve been trying to sign her for a long time.” I can only report on what I find in research the only way to confirm 100%,is if I had the contract to view.

He had pernicious anemia, glaucoma, cluster migraines, chronic insomnia and suffered 3 other mild heart attacks. He said often to her (because his mom died early and his uncle) that “I don’t have much time left.” Some of the health episodes were either exaggerated or downplayed depending on who wrote about it and what publisher had it out for Elvis (me paraphrasing Kathy)

Wonderful video! I really wish Arlene Cogan’s book was easier to find. It’d be nice if they’d republish it so newer fans can read it. Amazing collection!

Thank you for watching and I completely agree. I think Arlene's book is one of the most important books of the insight of Elvis just being himself. She wrote a respectful and insightful book. I am trying to find out if her son, co-writer or publisher own the rights to it. Now they have print on demand books, meaning you don't have to expend the cash to have alot printed hoping they sell. There is also e-books. I will keep searching.

Thank you so much. I makes me so happy to share information that many fans may not have access. I think Arlenes story is so important to give insight into Elvis’ life. His & his family’s hospitality, and generosity. I think they were all so grateful to be blessed and out of poverty that they wanted to share the success with everyone.

Ahhh he was so young. What a talent. His music and performances have remained a part of my life having grown up with my mon who adored him and my older brother who still holds Elvis in the highest regards. Thanks for putting together this video.

What part of New York are you from jojo? I love the accent - I miss it! I used to have the "east coast accent" (I lived in Trenton) - but I've lived in Ohio for close to 40 years now . . . so it only comes back when I'm angry!
