I've read somewhere that Evan James was inspired to write this as a response to his brother who had emigrated to America and wanted him to join him. When translated into English, you can see why, the bards, patriots and the language are all mentioned. No wonder it means so much to you in Wales. What astonishing passion and the other two verses are sung here too, which are rare. Always jealous as a proud Englishman whenever I hear this, because its one of the best anthems in the world! Just wish we had our own to match to sing when appropriate

I lived in Roath in 1977 - and we had a huge street party in Strathnairn Street near Albany Road - very clear and wonderful memory for me! Best days.

what a pity ... in the 2nd phrase : "Ei gwrol ryfelwyr" should take the same melodic way than "gwladgarwyr tra mad" (with the adequate transposition of course) : same at " Trwy deimlad gwladgarol / mor swynol yw si" and at " Ni luddiwyd yr awen / gan erchyll law brad" ... Why do they do these multiple errors ?? We find them in the Breton Anthem too (what a shame...) !!

I have always, always loved this anthem. It really stirs my soul.

An anthem fo Pride and Anguish demonstrating an eternal 'beleagering'; I appreciated the part in "The Crown" that adressed this predicament, which is so difficult to understand for a 'Non-Britain'...

When I die and reach the pearly gates and suddenly they open and a Welsh choir is singing….I’ll shriek ‘WOOHOO’…because I’ll know I’ve made it…..HEAVEN! Thank you Welsh people for the joy your singing gives us all😁🤗❤

My dad came from Wales and because of him I have a love for the Welsh rugby team. When the anthem is sung at the Millennium Stadium the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Even after attending the games for many years it still has the same effect on me.

Yours is a great rendering on the organ. My husband who is English thinks that the Welsh National Anthem is the greatest of all the National Anthems. He is off to his music room to play it on the trumpet. Thank you and hello from Toronto, Ontario Canada.

Nobody sings their national anthem with as much passion as do the Welsh. And they have good reason for that. They live in the most beautiful part of Great Britain, and it's the rain that makes it so green. If it were not for the Romans conquering what became known as England, most of us would be speaking that language today.
