Katie, what you had to say in the last 10 minutes of this video brought me to tears. I can't explain it except to say that I've been married almost 12 years now, and I felt so... seen while hearing you talk about being in a relationship. Thank you. I'm not much into visual novels, but I think I'm going to have to get Slay the Princess even after watching all of that.

Just a random thought but I have always found it fun when I see people play this game, but I immediately thought of going up, so did my mom, but my friend said down, and I asked why and he gave me an interesting answer. He said "I feel that you need to go down first so you can get up after" he has always been a little pessimistic, but my mom said without question up because "you should always go up in life whenever you can" the choice didn't really matter but I still feel that up was the right one even before she said it, I hardly gave down s second thought, it was only ever up for me. I do think it ties into the way I was raised and how I think of the world, but I found it to be very interesting and introspective

My favorite part is, and this's just my experience, that its not JUST a romantic love story! To me it really encapsulates how I personally feel about long-term platonic relationships as well, how intricate and messy they are. It really shows how well writen the game (and this essay!) is 💛 (Sorry if I've already commented this btw, it somehow ended up on a short lol)

"Else Heart.Break()" is another great game that involves more complex programming. It's the only game I've encountered that lets you hack into a soda can.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ithxfd2fzt_din0.html I'm curious what you thought/think of Davey Wreden's upcoming game "Wanderstop" which looks to subvert the cozy game with a splash of... panic attack?
@KatieAndCatburgerКүн бұрын
I'll give anything Wrenden makes at least a cursory try, I'm very excited to see what kind of spin he gives this one. There's a sense in the trailer that there's a lot going on under the surface. That said, that chunky 3D models look will take a lot to truly win me over lol

Amazing video. You guys missed that the hex is inspired in the Wreck it ralph movie. Sado being the main character of Wreck it ralph, and the bartender appears in the first scene of Wreck it ralph movie + The multiple games is the same as the movie. Other than that, really amazing video <3

Great video! Thanks for showing me this game. The One is so magnificently creepy because it looks so out of place, but mostly because it stares directly at the camera (the player) in a context where it shouldn't. It gives me the chills! Also, I might just be me connecting dots that aren't there, but the first movie (Ambrosia) is thematically about "breaking the law" as much as the second one, which you analyse it to be. I read this in how The one plays the temptation that makes the monk break his vows. Also, the scene where the left part is a close-up of the monk lying on the ground, and the woman in a gown and headdress entering from the right in the middle-ground, making her appear much smaller than the monk, instantly reminded me of The Odyssey. That scene resembles the part where Odysseus has killed the cyclops, Polyphemus. This both adds up with how the narrative of the scene in the movie is that the woman has come to deliver the the monk his fate (the woman having caused his death), and also how we aren't given a name, but just to call that immortal being "The One" and how Odysseus tricks Polyphemus by calling himself "No one" (which plays into a prophecy from an oracle, "No One will kill Polyphemus"). If you want to over analyse this, you can again relate this to the last scene where The One in-fiction is going to take over (kill us), the player from having watched its death on a screen, and how the technology forces us to only "see" from one perspective (eye) like a cyclops.

this reminds me a lot of the concept of transhumanism. your self grows to make a new entity that includes the character in the game, just like when you use a tool it is absorbed by yourself to create a new entity that thinks in new ways; "if you only have a hammer, all your problems look like nails" style

Re: The Adversary and the thorny barbs - in folklore thorny bushes, trees, and the like were often linked with the Devil (e.g. Blackthorn as a notorious cursing-tree), and the Devil himself was often named as The Adversary; the prime-evil, one who stands-against God and the divine order; adversary being derived from the Latin adversarius, meaning opposed or opponent. Thus the Devilish form the Princess takes on in this aspect may reflect that cultural perspective of evil as opposing, obstructing, and wounding; the thorns and barbs mirroring this neatly. The horns themselves may also be mirrored in the spikes of the thorns; weapons for defense against an adversary, whether that be an animal trying to eat the barbed plant, a rival horned male with whom an animal must butt-heads, or the player taking an antagonistic stance towards the Princess. Horns and thorns; physical manifestations of the need to protect, defend, and overcome that which is arrayed against us. Of course the eternal conflict which Player and Princess then enjoin reveals how futile these weapons of defense become, should that adversarial stance become the sole perspective through which we approach the world and those around us. We can't relate to the other in any real sense without relinquishing our weapons, at least for a time, so that we are vulnerable, open to the dual possibilities of wounding and true connection.

I will say I'm surprised you liked the expansions better than the original with regards to Case of the Golden Idol. I know my fiends and me who played it, did not enjoy the expansions as much as the original. I do appreciate all the games you've introduced me to. I hadn't heard about Blood on the Thames and that looks like a game that will definitely hit a lot of my buttons.
