I did not know that Taiwan was a possible invasion site. I imagine that having an American occupation force on Taiwan at the conclusion of the Chinese Civil War would have made for some interesting history.

While I own a lot of handguns, and enjoy them all, the 1911 just has that special place in my handgun heart. I have this strange feeling that 100 years from now when crusty old guys are sitting around a camp fire talking about all the great semi autos of the past at least a few of them will still have a 1911 hung on their belt. As far as I'm concerned the 1911 is not only a very capable self defense gun, even after 113 years, but it's still the best looking semi auto out there. Browning was not only a mechanical genius when it came to firearms, but he had a eye for beauty.

I've been reading and watching ww2 related stuff for 3 decades. The levels of evil are unfathomable. And it makes angry how people today cheapen what took place during that time by accusing everyone that they disagree with of being Fascist or Nazis. People really need to get a grip.

Why is this censored? Is there anywhere I can watch this as the documentary makers intended, uncensored? Shame on KZfaq for trying to revise history.

I carried the M60 in 1984 as a newbie Combat Engineer. for six months . I did not like it because it was unreliable and it was easy to put together wrong. To change the hot barrel you had to replace it with your hands using gloves. Better to have adopted the MG42.

5:05 Aren't you glad Dan Snow and his History Hits Channel is now charging you for these free YT videos? And saying it's just like Netflix. And you get a temp of 50% off for the videos on Warstories. What a deal. No thank you Dan. (He's a world renowned historian according to his advertisement on another channel he's trying to take over.). A bit egocentric, eh?

With the dated CGI, I was suspecting that this documentary was quite old, but when they showed the unrestored hull of the Tiger 131, I knew for sure

Whilst I respect the importance of historians for such documentaries-- switching to on-screen individuals in libraries and offices, essentially verbalising what the narrator offers/can offer himself (understandably, partly facilitated by such historians) -- it spoils the flow and dynamics for me. This narrator is very listenable/complimentary on his own.

Having talked to hundreds of WW2 veterans I can tell you that every one of them would have gone to their home island and wade into them stacking the enemy like cords of wood. They also said that the public was right there with them. So I take issue with the narrator when he says the American government feared the public might tire of a prolonged war.

The Greatest Generation is a fitting title. I spent four years at sea and there is nowhere to hide out there. That's why I think you will see more warships in the future that are semi- submersible but still able to instantly transform into surface units. I know it sounds like Jules Verne or something...
