Reminds me of a concert pianist who once said: "Ignorant people think Schubert is a composer for maidens; in reality he is a Titan". The joyful final allegretto of the D960, written while he knew that life was abandoning him, is one of the most poignant pieces of music I know of.

I like also the Bösendorfer piano ( what a funny name) but how would it sound when the Barenboim piano technology would be used. It happens that an older piano technology as used for the List's piano is simply better than anything produced later. Great Barenboim knew it and got one produced for him with this superior old technology by a specialist.

Such a complete artist. Many aspects to praise and ponder about, but one in particular I find myself thoroughly enjoying while listening to this recital is... Well, let me put it simply like this: Maître Schiff, one of the finest grammarians I've ever had the pleasure to listen to.

Very well put. Sir András is indeed the consummate musical grammarian. A major aspect of his pianism is that he is able to give us precisely what the composer put down on the written page without dampening (or exploiting) the emotional and intellectual contents of the piece. In doing so he takes a musical score and creates an experience which is more than the sum of the parts, which is in itself work of Art.

The specialness of Maestro Schiff's touch and the Bozey's tone is evident from the first few bars. Thanks. Now, the question: for 960, will it be Schiff or Brendel?! Right now I'll have to stay here. Thanks for this Matthew.

This is definitely one of the greatest recitals I‘ve ever heard in my life. Sir Andras is playing Schubert‘s and Beethoven‘s last Piano Sonatas. Schubert and Beethoven are the main persons of this evening, rather than Sir Andras Schiff and that makes a big difference. On his own Bösendorfer - this feels like the best piano one can imagine. And then there is the seconds of silence after the Beethoven Sonata. Truly magical.

The essence of playing Mozart in any work he wrote lays in two aspects: good taste and a reasonable amount of risk. Which are both lacking in this meaningless piano playing by kadouch.

This student is banging the piano way too much. The funny faces he does makes it about impossible to watch. I couldn't continue listening as it is way too harsh for me. He plays Mozart more like Liszt. Love Zoltán Kocsis but I won't be following this pianist. I can't stand him! He great off the "I'm so great" vibe. Everything he does seems to be to feed his over inflated ego. You can smell it!

@@francesco7649 , Like the Maestro Daniel Barenboim said about Kadouche playing Beethoven in his master class. "The problem with having such character and a creative gift is you sometimes feel you can even bend the text/score to benefit the “characterization” There comes a moment when liberty becomes anarchy.” So, there it is.....

I have read here, that this piano is Mstro.'s Schiff's personal Imperial Grand Piano, made out of cherry wood out of trees of Antonin Chekov's cherry orchards. In an effort to accomodate the out-do personality of the region.

I know the following is probably pointless but I am going to voice it anyway. Surely an organisation with as much money as youtube could time their endless advertising so that adds fall between movements or between pieces. KZfaq is my only place to listen to music as Spotify is unethical… wait for fallout…. This was a beautiful concert totally destroyed again by the soulless people who run youtube.

Why has no one else complained about the sound quality? When Kocsis speaks, he is so soft compared to the piano. If I turn the volume up on my speakers, then the piano is extremely loud and harsh. All that was needed was a separate microphone closer to Kocsis. What a waste of my time! Bye!

I think his balance between the hands is nice, but I am not a fan of how he almost 'pauses' to put down the note. It looks like he his trying to give it a nice sound, but doesn't quite work in the context of the left hand octave passages in the Allegro con Spirito

Gulda once remarked rightly that for Mozart the pianist has to live for some months in Vienna in order to enter into the specific niveau in which Mozart has to be interpreted. There is a great difference between technical artistic brilliance and expressing the emotions intended by the composer. And this latter capacity grows with the experience of the pianist. Best example is Andras Schiff. There are of course exceptions as Anastasia Huppmann playing La Cathedrale Engloutie.

Andras Schiff's pianistic skills are undoubtedly very high. I don't touch that. But I dare to express my humble opinion about the famous second movement of Beethoven's Opus 111. Many find him great, of great spirituality etc. and everything that has been and is said and written about it. I, on the other hand, can't really get much out of him, yes, to put it bluntly, I even find him quite weak and difficult to listen to. (Please don't stone me...!)
