Recently, well maybe in the past 6 to 10 months, you posted a video telling folks that you bought your replacement blades for that harbor freight/fret saw setup from a company in Cranston, Rhode Island…. I only remember because I live in Rhode Island, and lived in Cranston for quite some time…don’t remember the company name though…hope this helps?

Drop the grace card at the festival. Is that an utensils box? I have a couple but never had plans for using them. Will be interesting build.

My mother brought me one of these boxes identical to the one you’re using and two Cuesta-Ray boxes that are a bit more narrow without real hinges or latch for the lid but paper keeps the lid able to open in one direction. I was grateful already but after you got so pumped and said that box would sound so good I’m more excited. I could have killed her when she said the old man who just randomly brought a bunch of his cigar boxes to work and offered them for free “had some that were bigger wooden ones that I just thought were a lot bigger than the one you used to make your first one (fail). I asked her if he had anyone else take them and she said “well I was gonna take them anyway and use them for something but so and so said she wanted them because her husband played guitar and wanted to build one and I just took these”. Owe Moma you know how hard it is around here to find free or even cheap boxes and then asked her to explain the bigger boxes.. her explanation was 4 big and finely built boxes that smelled good even but she thought I wouldn’t want the big ones. Then I got the feeling the other lady ran over her a little or even a lot and mother did as she does best and let her basically take all the obviously nice boxes except for one and never let mother have a chance because mothers too shy to tell her as I would with a smile “wait I want at least to split them I was already gonna just take them all and decided I would share them with you. That’s not mother’s way and that B knew she would be able to take whatever. I’d rather have shy mother than the best cigar box but that women is a bit of a bully and lucky she wasn’t dealing with me lol.

You just sucked me all the way in. Been on the edge till the last moments of this vid. I'm a wood turner who has played in a jug band (the washboard) and built a guy bucket that had a rigid neck and was played by fretting with a gloved hand. Think I'll get started. Thanks.

Hey Del, Your girls are great and beautiful as well (must take after their Mother). They deserve a break! Send them to Nashville where pop music prevails anyway, get a new label as T&N doesn't seem to be taking care of business. I would suggest "Big Machine". Better people on video's wouldn't hurt either, someone like "Tailight Production Company". They'll be spendy but they're the best. I really believe that "in the correct lane" the sky is the limit for those two girls. Oh yeah, great video, can't wait for part two.

9:21 ... Mighty Mite Rules!!! I got my blade from Penn Tools iirc... much cheaper than the StewMac blade (although the StewMac blade is a better) ... I was recently gifted a pair of high quality blades from a very generous KZfaqr! Another challenge to the MM is the saw table height adjustment.. poor design imo... if you have fat fingers you can't get enough of your fingers around that knob to easily tighten it! I solved that by taking a large dowel and drilling out the end to conform to the shape of the knob, now it's easy to loosen and tighten the knob, in fact I have to be careful not to over tighten it snd strip out the threads!

Great idea to build the box upside down, also to preserve the often beautiful covers. I built three wooden boxes yet, and always leave a gap between the neck and the top let let it vibrate and sound hopefully better acoustically. To withstand the pressure of the saddle, I glue like a brace or put a dowel underneath, between the top and the back of the box. But I can't tell if that makes a big difference...

Beautiful guitar. I'd call that neck shape "Semi-Octagonal" I like the look of the offset headstock. The gap on the license plate. Those things have a little spring and are seldom flat. Easiest solution is probably to glue it down, or use 3M adhesive sheets like are used to mount pickguards. Essentially a sheet of good double-stick tape. Heat-gun or maybe a blow dryer will remove it. Unless removing the plate is how you access the electronics. Loved your rendition of "Good Times Bad Times" - Yay Led Zep!

Michael's entry surely has fine sound; great work, sir! I'm looking forward to the next entry. Del, I'd like it if you'd mention the scale length of the guitars as part of the description.

I love it! What a cool sound! Us folks in North Idaho love the deer on the guitar look. I also noticed the dowels used to pin the box together and that is a very strong joint. The flag in the picture is cool too. That does look like a woodworker made pickup cover which is a a great Idea!! As far as the Jumbo fret vs a smaller regular fret I choose jumbo just because it makes is nicer to play slide. If you think about it once you bar ANY fret from the first one on up, then THAT fret becomes the "0" fret anyhow. So if too big of jumbo fret is used (If that can even happen) then the concern would be the intonation changing because of the strings being pushed down further to fret. So far I have not encountered a problem though. I am not proficient enough with the slide to not Knock on the frets with the slide. Nice build!!

Another amazing build for this challenge. I think the only thing I would do different would be to use black tuners to match the other hardware. Otherwise, awesome job Michael. Loving the builders challenge and hope you get more. Would also love to go to the festival. It should be an amazing time but I'm short on vacation time and gas money 😂 (I'm in Michigan). I hope you put out a video of it afterwards.

8:21 ... my big revelation (apocalyptic?) this last week: I've always used a jumbo fret for the zero fret even though Michael Copaldo (sp?) said it wasn't necessary, just use the same fret as all the rest! Did I believe him? NO! 😉 Until earlier this week, that is... checking the action on a newly finished (sort of) cbg I noticed "hey, if I used a medium fret for the zero fret I bet the action would be just a little better, eh?" So, I laboriously removed the jumbo and pressed in a medium fret snd ya know what? Michael Copaldo was right!!! 🤯 Wow wow wow......wow! 17:02 .. "hardtail bridges" ... my recent build I tried installing a Bigsby style whammy bar on a gorgeous white Atabey box, I thought the box was long enough... it wasn't, there was not enough space between the front roller bar and the bridge for the correct angle...I even tried the hard tail bridge with the strings running through the back (as per Michael's cbg)...nope, just wasn't going to work 😥 ... so I ended up just using the hard tail bridge and am musing (ska tearing my hair out) on how to hide those screw holes from the whammy bar! D'Oh! Oh man, I'm talkin' way too much here!

i like using a jumbo so i can slot a little groove into it … this holds the strings in place for us “wigglers” … but using this style string holder accomplishes the same thing.. good observation sir!!! 🤓

This just madeVv my day. I have had a cigar box for a few years. It was very poorly setup so I have started the process of improving the setup. I just naturally just tuned to E B E because I am a guitarist/bassist. Next step replace the tuners and add a neck pickup and switch. This video tells me I am on the right track.
