Man, I haven’t seen one of those for ages. The Pioneer PLX-5 did the same thing, but not sure which was the upper model. Dude, love the channel! Everything from inexpensive easy to find to top tier turntables. So cool, especially to gear nerds that like to fix sh*t up and see how it works and sounds. I enjoyed your Denon DA-307 with the DL103 cart. Hell, I dig all your vids. Right now I’m running a Yamaha PX-2 linear tracking direct drive (that I found at the dump!) It just needed a few parts replaced. My main deck is my KAB fully modified and upgraded SL-1200 M3D, and a vintage Sansui wooden based deck as my mono turntable. I tried a new GR, but preferred my M3D. New doesn’t necessarily mean better. Got a cartridge collection of about 30 or so all on headshells of the brand of the cart if possible…lol What is some of your main gear? I assume you repair turntables? How do you get to record so many? FWIW, I’m a guitar luthier and I also fix tube amps. Thanks again, man! Love it! 🔊😊🎶💜🎵

@NickP333 Thank you very much for you appreciation. Yes, I do repair turntables for living. My gear at the moment is an ITT HiFi 8015 with Elac 795E cartridge, a Transonic P 100 with Ortofon VMS 30 cartridge, and a Philips GA 312 with Philips GP 412 cartridge. I love "underdogs", those are very often rationally built, no useless frills, that are so hard to maintain on those more posh turntables, often not even serviceable after all those decades. And the vintage cartridges with their distinct sound signature. Time machines for me. I used to have a Technics SL-1610 MK II, a very good turntable based on 1200, once those usual age related issues are taken care of. This one very special Pioneer is now working again thanks to his owner's determination, it came from Finland, broken due to the rough handling during the transportation to the extent I initially refused to work on it. But then he promised to pay for the job no matter the result...and here we are now 😎

Of course you do. This is basically a 1200 with a floating subchassis and full automatic operation.

@@PhonoDirect Got the Kenwood, it's beautiful, but, gosh, it sounds too compressed and uninspiring, compared to my Dual 505, which is more alive and fun to listen to. I guess, these overdamped mastodons are just not my cup of tea). Well, live and learn! Cheers!

Always wanted to check Rega TTs, to see, what all the fuss is about. Got myself Planar 2. Big surprise for me! I can't even listen to it, it sounds that bad. May i ask you, as much more experienced person, than i am, - am i crazy, something's wrong with my ears, brain chemistry, or what, how someone can call this audiophile sound? Appreciate, if you can shed some light for me on this matter, please. Cheers! Keep up great work!

@petrvodkin5001 I am not exactly a fan of these overpriced legends, as their counterparts from Pro-ject bring more value for the money at the same price bracket. Anyway, regarding the sound of the Planar 2 in your possession I would start by upgrading the cartridge. I don't know if yours is worn-out or just from the scratch not up to your expectations, but an upgrade for, let's say an AT-VM95E might help.

@@PhonoDirect Thanks for your response! I got 4 other TTs, and they sound fine with AT3600L (Rega Carbon), which i have, this one is very different, all the instruments just have a glassy sound, very unnatural. Cheers!

Beautiful setup. I have a question: how would you compare Dual 701 and 704 in terms of sheer capability? Is the tonearm on 704 better than 701? Or does the heave platter on 701 makes it superior than the 704?

I would say it's the same league, 704 being much more reliable and easier to repair, equipped with the VTA setting.

I like it. My "turn table" is Hitachi direct drive, not Shure 45, Concord 30. Why? if you don't know acoustic, physics, ok.
